Prospecting the protein design landscape

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This review outlines the current state of various protein design approaches. We discuss the current possibilities enabled by recently released tools, highlight future avenues to pursue in protein design, and underscore the crucial role of key databases and resources for successful protein design workflows.

Artificial molecular machines and motors—Design and control of nanoscale motion

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Molecules are constantly moving because of thermal fluctuations, but random motion alone cannot be exploited to perform directional tasks. Artificial molecular machines use chemical, electrical, or light energy to bias this motion. Molecular shuttles, rotary motors, and supramolecular pumps illustrate how nanoscale movement can be controlled and ...

Emergent Properties in Structurally Dynamic Disordered Cellular Networks

open access: yesJ. Cell. Autom., 2006
We relate structurally dynamic cellular networks, a class of models we developed in fundamental space-time physics, to SDCA, introduced some time ago by Ilachinski and Halpern. We emphasize the crucial property of a non-linear interaction of network geometry with the matter degrees of freedom in order to emulate the supposedly highly erratic and ...

The heterodimeric amino acid transporters (HAT) of the SLC7/SLC3 family: A structure−function relationships and relevance to human pathology

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Heterodimeric amino acid transporters consist of SLC7 and SLC3 family proteins arranged in a conserved structural organization. They regulate nutrient transport across cell membranes, supporting essential cellular functions. These transporters also contribute to xenobiotic/drug uptake and distribution.

Topological structural analysis and dynamical properties in MgSiO

open access: yes, 2022
In this paper, we report the changes in structural and dynamical properties of a MgSiO3 liquid under compression via molecular dynamics simulation. The short-range order is analyzed through the bond angles and bond lengths of the structural units, and ...

Leucine‐rich glioma inactivated 1 (LGI1) is a ganglioside‐binding protein

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neuronal hyperexcitability associated with a decrease/absence of the extracellular protein LGI1 has been suggested to be primarily due to the downregulation of Kv1 channel expression. The molecular mechanisms underlying this decrease have not yet been elucidated.

Smaller is better: nanobodies meet NMR

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nanobodies are single‐domain antigen‐binding fragments derived from camelid heavy chain antibodies. Their small size, high stability, and exceptional specificity make nanobodies uniquely useful probes for NMR studies of protein dynamics, transient conformational states, and protein–protein interactions.

Dynamical and structural properties of Au 6 cluster

open access: yes, 1998
The dynamical and structural properties of the Au6 cluster are studied using microcanonical molecular dynamics simulations. The interaction between the atoms in the cluster is modeled by an empirical model potential.
