Detecting Nonlinear Interactions in Complex Systems: Application in Financial Markets

open access: yesEntropy, 2023
Emerging or diminishing nonlinear interactions in the evolution of a complex system may signal a possible structural change in its underlying mechanism.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Extended Threshold Error Correction Model of economic growth in Israel

open access: yesBulletin of Geography. Socio-Economic Series, 2022
The paper utilizes a comprehensive approach to threshold cointegration to analyse the Israeli per capita Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth dynamics. The time-series data for the years 1980–2019 are taken.

A methionine‐lined active site governs carbocation stabilization and product specificity in a bacterial terpene synthase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals a unique active site enriched in methionine residues and demonstrates that these residues play a critical role by stabilizing carbocation intermediates through novel sulfur–cation interactions. Structure‐guided mutagenesis further revealed variants with significantly altered product profiles, enhancing pseudopterosin formation. These

Has the Structural Break Slowed Down Growth Rates of Stock Markets? [PDF]

open access: yes
In this paper, we use the common structural break test suggested by Bai et al. (1998) to test for a common structural break in the stock prices of the US, the UK, and Japan.

Subsample Analysis of Oil Revenue Shocks and Macroeconomic Policy Transmission

open access: yesSystems
This research examines the impact of positive crude oil revenue shocks on Russia’s macroeconomic policy and economic development, analyzes the effects of macroeconomic policy on the economy, and compares these effects across two subsamples (2005–2013 and

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

Cis‐regulatory and long noncoding RNA alterations in breast cancer – current insights, biomarker utility, and the critical need for functional validation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The noncoding region of the genome plays a key role in regulating gene expression, and mutations within these regions are capable of altering it. Researchers have identified multiple functional noncoding mutations associated with increased cancer risk in the genome of breast cancer patients.
