ON OPTIMUM DESIGN OF FRAME STRUCTURES
Optimization of frame structures is formulated as a non-convex optimization problem, which is currently solved to local optimality. In this contribution, we investigate four optimization approaches: (i) general non-linear optimization, (ii) optimality criteria method, (iii) non-linear semidefinite programming, and (iv) polynomial optimization.

Program Structure and Design [PDF]
Most models of computer programming explain the programmer's behaviour by a single design strategy. This article presents a cognitive architecture that uses cue‐based search to model multiple design strategies including procedural, functional, means‐end or focal, and opportunistic design. The model has been implemented in an artificial intelligence (AI)

Structural Design for Microaccelerometer
AbstractAn optimal method is proposed for designing the structure parameters of microaccelerometer. Four types of microaccelerometers are investigated including piezoresistive cantilever-type, piezoresistive bridge-type, capacitive cantilever- type and capacitive bridge-type. The objective is to enlarge sensitivity as well as bandwidth.

Integrated Design of Smart Structures [PDF]
Much of structural control research and applications in civil engineering have been concerned with structures equipped with passive, hybrid, or active control devices in order to enhance structural performance under extraordinary loads. In most cases, the structure and the control system are individually designed and optimized.
