The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

A structural equation modeling analysis on solvency, operation and profitability of life insurers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
textThe abilities of life insurers can be divided and measured from various aspects. Through the use of structural equation modeling, we investigate the relations among solvency, operation ability and profitability in year 1994, 1995 and 1996.

Instrumental Variables Two-Stage Least Squares (2SLS) vs. Maximum Likelihood Structural Equation Modeling of Causal Effects in Linear Regression Models

open access: yes, 2019
In the presence of omitted variables or similar validity threats, regression estimates are biased. Unbiased estimates (the causal effects) can be obtained in large samples by fitting instead the Instrumental Variables Regression (IVR) model.

Numerical modeling of stainless steel structural components - a consistent approach [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
This paper describes numerical modeling of the structural response of stainless steel hollow sections. The aim of the investigation was to develop a consistent approach to the modeling of stainless steel structures.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

A Marginal Maximum Likelihood Approach for Extended Quadratic Structural Equation Modeling with Ordinal Data

open access: yes, 2020
The literature on non-linear structural equation modeling is plentiful. Despite this fact, few studies consider interactions between exogenous and endogenous latent variables.

Structural Model of Channelrhodopsin [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Biological Chemistry, 2012
Channelrhodopsins (ChRs) are light-gated cation channels that mediate ion transport across membranes in microalgae (vectorial catalysis). ChRs are now widely used for the analysis of neural networks in tissues and living animals with light (optogenetics).

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Shaping a Safe Working Environment in the Coal Production Process: Utilizing Model Studies to Assess Methane Hazard Formation

open access: yesManagement Systems in Production Engineering
The establishment of a safe working environment is one of the key challenges in the implementation of various production processes. This is particularly relevant to underground coal production, where the primary operations (exploitation) take place in an
