Organoids in pediatric cancer research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Organoid technology has revolutionized cancer research, yet its application in pediatric oncology remains limited. Recent advances have enabled the development of pediatric tumor organoids, offering new insights into disease biology, treatment response, and interactions with the tumor microenvironment.

First-principles study of (BiScO3){1-x}-(PbTiO3){x} piezoelectric alloys

open access: yes, 2003
We report a first-principles study of a class of (BiScO3)_{1-x}-(PbTiO3)_x (BS-PT) alloys recently proposed by Eitel et al. as promising materials for piezoelectric actuator applications.

Geophysical investigation of the Pb-Zn deposit of Lontzen-Poppelsberg, Belgium [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The drillhole information from the Lontzen-Poppelsberg site has demonstrated three orebodies and has allowed the estimation of the extension of the lodes, their dip, and the location at the ground surface.

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Preparation Process, Structure, and Modification of Alkali Metal Niobate Lead-Free Piezoelectric Ceramics [PDF]

open access: yesArchives of Metallurgy and Materials
Pb-based piezoelectric ceramics cause serious Pb pollution during manufacturing, Pb-free niobate-based piezoelectric ceramics have strong ferroelectricity and high Curie temperatures, rendering them more suitable for making ceramics.

General theory of charge regulation within the Poisson-Boltzmann framework: study of a sticky-charged wall model

open access: yes, 2019
This work introduces a sticky-charge wall model as a simple and intuitive representation of charge regulation. Implemented within the mean-field level of description, the model modifies the boundary conditions without affecting the underlying Poisson ...

Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

A Retrospective Analysis of Central and Peripheral Metabolic Characteristics in Patients with Cryptococcal Meningitis

open access: yesNeurology and Therapy
Introduction Most current treatment strategies and investigations on cryptococcal meningitis (CM) focus primarily on the central nervous system (CNS), often overlooking the complex interplay between the CNS and the peripheral system.
