Molecular Dynamics Simulations of Lead and Lithium in Liquid Phase

open access: yes, 2011
Pb17Li is today a reference breeder material in diverse fusion R&D programs worldwide. Extracting dynamic and structural properties of liquid LiPb mixtures via molecular dynamics simulations, represent a crucial step for multiscale modeling efforts ...

Rab14 regulates the transport of human papillomavirus to the trans‐Golgi network for infectious cell entry

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals that the small GTPase Rab14 is necessary for human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and plays an essential role in the transport of virions to the trans‐Golgi network (TGN). HPV in the early endosome (EE), which harbors GTP‐bound Rab14, is transported to the TGN through the switch of Rab14 from its GTP‐bound to GDP‐bound form.

Outsourcing Participatory Democracy: Critical Reflections on the Participatory Budgeting Experiences in Taiwan

open access: yesJournal of Deliberative Democracy, 2018
This article attempts to critically examine the experiences of participatory budgeting (PB) that have proliferated across Taiwan’s cities over the past three years. It is argued that PB in Taiwan remains an isolated initiative instead of an integral part

MEIS structural study of the Ni(111)(root3 xroot3)-Pb surface phase

open access: yes, 2000
The structure of the Ni(111)(√3×√3)R30°-Pb surface phase formed by a nominal 1/3 monolayer of Pb has been investigated by medium-energy ion scattering using 100 keV H+ ions in three different incidence directions.

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

Structural Evolution from 0D Units to 3D Frameworks in Pb Oxyhalides: Unexpected Strongly Corrugated Layers in Pb7O6Br2

open access: yes, 2015
Novel Pb7O6Br2 (1) lead oxybromide was prepared from Pb oxybromide melt by the “rapid quenching” route. Bonding scheme, thermal expansion, and structural properties were studied. The structural features of this unexpectedly complex phase are described on

Modulation of Homer1 EVH1 domain internal dynamics by putative autism‐associated mutations

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The putative autism‐associated M65I and S97L variants of the EVH1 domain of the postsynaptic scaffold protein Homer1 do not exhibit substantial changes in their overall structure or partner binding. Both of them, but especially the M65I variant, show altered internal dynamics relative to the wild‐type domain on the μs‐ms timescale, indicated by the ...

Mechanical properties and microstructural behavior of reactive MgO carbonated Pb-contaminated red clay

open access: yesJournal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering
The presence of heavy metals in soil negatively impacts its mechanical properties. Reactive MgO carbonation presents a promising approach to enhance the solidification of Pb-contaminated sandy soils.

Observation of a structural transition during the low temperature growth of the Si(111)-Pb interface.

open access: yes, 1999
The low-temperature Si(111)7 x 7-Pb interface has been investigated using surface X-ray diffraction. The Schottky barrier height of the Pb/Si diode is known to depend on the atomic reconstruction of the interface.

The ubiquitin‐proteasome system and autophagy as guardians of the cellular proteome

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This Perspective covers the three principles governing the crosstalk between the ubiquitin‐proteasome system and autophagy in cellular proteostasis: (1) a shared ubiquitin code routing substrates via shuttle factors or autophagy receptors; (2) spatial compartmentalization into phase‐separated degradation hubs and organelle‐specific modules (exemplified
