Target Complexity Modulates Syntactic Priming During Comprehension

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychology, 2020
Syntactic priming is known to facilitate comprehension of the target sentence if the syntactic structure of the target sentence aligns with the structure of the prime (Branigan et al., 2005; Tooley and Traxler, 2010).

From junk to function — How weak selection in eukaryotes builds new parts and drives genomic complexity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
How do genomes gain new functional parts? In eukaryotes, which tend to evolve under weak selection, much of the genome is junk. Palazzo and Qiu borrow the logic of Markov chains to show how non‐functional DNA becomes functional through the appearance of intermediate states, which arise due to epistasis, buffering, and biochemical messiness, allowing ...

The Shewanella oneidensis Fic enzyme SoFic targets the switch‐I region of EF‐Tu for AMPylation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fic enzymes mediate diverse post‐translational modifications across all domains of life, including AMPylation. Prokaryotic EF‐Tu can be AMPylated and deAMPylated by the conserved Fic enzyme SoFic. Structural and biochemical approaches were used to characterize the effect of AMPylation on EF‐Tu, SoFic's enzymatic activities, and the enzyme‐target ...

Cross-linguistic structural priming on implausible sentences

open access: yes, 2023
The current study explores whether bilinguals preserve the syntactic reanalysis of implausible sentences during comprehension, as reflected in a cross-linguistic structural priming ...

JORDAN STRUCTURE ON PRIME RINGS WITH CENTRALIZERS

open access: yesDemonstratio Mathematica, 2007
Summary: Our object in this paper is to study a generalization of \textit{B. Zalar}'s result [in Commentat. Math. Univ. Carol. 32, No. 4, 609-614 (1991; Zbl 0746.16011)] on Jordan centralizers of semiprime rings by proving the following result: Let \(R\) be a prime ring of characteristic different from 2, and \(U\) be a Jordan ideal of \(R\).

Metastatic niche shaped by host factors influences disseminated cancer cell fate

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Metastasis is shaped not only by cancer cells but also by the environments they encounter. This review explores how factors such as aging, diet, the microbiome, lifestyle, and environmental exposures remodel organ‐specific niches in the lung, liver, bone, and brain, influencing where metastatic cells survive, remain dormant, or grow, and ultimately ...

Independent Semantic and Syntactic Representations in L2 Mandarin Learners: Evidence from Structural Priming

open access: yesEducation Sciences
Structural representations in English have been shown to be quite abstract, with structural information being represented independently from semantic information.

Neutralization of the PTX3/CD44 axis suppresses TGF‐β1 signaling in kidney fibrosis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study investigates how the PTX3/CD44 axis promotes kidney fibrosis by activating TGF‐β1 signaling. We demonstrate that the neutralizing antibody WHC‐001 effectively inhibits this pathway, suppressing myofibroblast activation and partial epithelial–mesenchymal transition (EMT).

Enhancing Self-priming Efficiency in Vortex Pumps Through Optimization of the Gas-liquid Separation Chamber [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Applied Fluid Mechanics
This study investigates the low self-priming efficiency of vortex self-priming pumps through numerical simulation and optimization of the self-priming process, employing the Eulerian-coupled volume of fluid (VOF) method.

Priming semantic structure in Brazilian Portuguese

open access: yesJournal of Cultural Cognitive Science, 2018
Structural priming, the tendency for speakers to reuse previously encountered sentence structures, provides some of the strongest evidence for the existence of abstract structural representations in language. In the present research, we investigate the priming of semantic structure in Brazilian Portuguese using the locative alternation: A menina ...
