An Introduction to Eco-Structuralism [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
This paper introduces a new approach to music composition we call eco-structuralism. The techniques of ecostructuralism include analysis and transformation of sonic structures in environmental sounds. This paper elaborates on the motivations, process and

Mukaøovský’s Structuralism and Semiotics

open access: yesEstetika, 2016
An introduction to an English translation of Jan Mukařovský’s lecture The Semiology of Art (1936-1937). In this lecture Mukařovský (1891−1975), a Czech aesthetician, literary historian, theorist, and leading proponent of Czech structuralism, develops his

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

DEVELOPMENT OF IDEAS OF STRUCTURALISM AND POSTSTRUCTURALISM IN SOCIAL PHILOSOPHY OF THE XX CENTURY

open access: yesSovremennye Issledovaniâ Socialʹnyh Problem, 2022
The article presents a brief analysis of the ideas of the 20th century thinkers M. Foucault and J. Derrida in relation to the ideas of structuralism and poststructuralism, their similarity, difference and development of the discourse of structuralism as ...

Learning the Structure for Structured Sparsity [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Signal Processing, 2015
Structured sparsity has recently emerged in statistics, machine learning and signal processing as a promising paradigm for learning in high-dimensional settings. All existing methods for learning under the assumption of structured sparsity rely on prior knowledge on how to weight (or how to penalize) individual subsets of variables during the subset ...

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

Strukturelle Syntax

open access: yesTraduction et Langues, 2013
On Structural syntax The beginnings of structuralism lie with the Geneva linguist Ferdinand de Saussure, who is therefore sometimes referred to as the "father" of structuralism. Important terms of structuralism are: langue/parole, synchrony/diachrony,

Transcendental idealism and structuralism

open access: yesEtnoantropološki Problemi, 2009
The author examines possible analogies between Kant’s transcendental idealism and de Saussure’s and Levi-Strauss’s structuralism, in order to analyse if the former can be understood as a predecessor for the later.

The Structure, the Whole Structure and Nothing but the Structure?

open access: yes, 2009
This paper is structured around the three elements of the title. Section 2 claims that (a) structures need objects and (b) scientific structuralism should focus on in re structures. Therefore, pure structuralism is undermined. Section 3 discusses whether the world has 'excess structure' over the structure of appearances.

Structure of structure formation theories [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review D, 1999
We study the general structure of models for structure formation, with applications to the reverse engineering of the model from observations. Through a careful accounting of the degrees of freedom in covariant gravitational instability theory, we show that the evolution of structure is completely specified by the stress history of the dark sector. The
