Impact of weight-bearing on foot shape: a geometric and morphometric assessment using principal polynomial shape analysis

open access: yesScientific Reports
Weight-bearing computed tomography (WBCT) has set a new standard for assessing foot alignment under physiological loading conditions. However, few studies have systematically quantified morphological differences between weight-bearing (WB) and non-weight-

Impact of weightbearing on progressive collapsing foot deformity shape: a geometric morphometric analysis

open access: yesBone & Joint Open
Aims: Weightbearing CT (WBCT) has set a new standard for the assessment of foot and ankle alignment in patients with progressive collapsing foot deformity (PCFD) under physiological loading conditions compared with conventional CT.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Original scientific paper Benzenoid isomers with greatest and smallest Kekulé [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
: In families of benzenoid isomers, the species with the greatest and smallest value of the Kekulé structure count (K) possess, respectively, the greatest and smallest thermodynamic stability and, respectively, the smallest and greates reactivity.

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Monolithic optoelectronic circuit design for on-chip terahertz applications

open access: yesAPL Photonics
We demonstrate a monolithic coplanar stripline platform for on-chip terahertz (THz) generation, transmission, and detection, addressing key challenges of mode purity, bandwidth, and referencing. Capacitive coupling of the photoconductive generator switch
