Characterizing polygonality in biological structures [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review E, 2006
Several systems involve spatial arrangements of elements such as molecules or cells, the characterization of which bears important implications to biological and physical investigations. Traditional approaches to quantify spatial order and regularity have relied on nearest neighbor distances or the number of sides of cells.

Efficient Green Synthesis of Hollow Silica Nanoparticles

open access: yesNantong Daxue xuebao. Ziran kexue ban, 2021
The traditional acid-base etching method to prepare hollow silica nanoparticles often causes safety and environmental problems. Thus, an efficient green method to synthesize the hollow silica nanoparticles is proposed in this paper.

Innovative Silicon Microgrippers for Biomedical Applications: Design, Mechanical Simulation and Evaluation of Protein Fouling

open access: yesActuators, 2018
The demand of miniaturized, accurate and robust micro-tools for minimally invasive surgery or in general for micro-manipulation, has grown tremendously in recent years. To meet this need, a new-concept comb-driven microgripper was designed and fabricated.

A Structural Characterization of Human SCO2 [PDF]

open access: yesStructure, 2007
Human Sco2 is a mitochondrial membrane-bound protein involved in copper supply for the assembly of cytochrome c oxidase in eukaryotes. Its precise action is not yet understood. We report here a structural and dynamic characterization by NMR of the apo and copper(I) forms of the soluble fragment.

Extraction, Acetylation Modification and Structure Characterization of Hemicelluloses from Corncob

open access: yesShipin gongye ke-ji, 2022
Hemicellulose was extracted from corncob and further modified by acetylation. Ultrasonic-assisted alkali method was employed for the extraction, in which sulfuric acid (H2SO4) and elemental iodine (I2) were used as co-catalyst for the acetylation of ...

Bordetella Adenylate Cyclase Toxin Inhibits Monocyte-to-Macrophage Transition and Dedifferentiates Human Alveolar Macrophages into Monocyte-like Cells

open access: yesmBio, 2019
Monocytes arriving at the site of infection differentiate into functional effector macrophages to replenish the resident sentinel cells. Bordetella pertussis, the pertussis agent, secretes an adenylate cyclase toxin-hemolysin (CyaA) that binds myeloid ...

Structural Characterization of Nitrimyoglobin

open access: yesJournal of Biological Chemistry, 1989
Nitrimyoglobin was formed in greater than 94% yield by a simple reaction between excess nitrite and horse heart metmyoglobin at pH 5.5. This dark green pigment was shown by 1H NMR spectroscopy to be a single, pure product with a well defined tertiary structure that is highly similar to the starting myoglobin.

Community Structure Characterization [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
This entry discusses the problem of describing some communities identified in a complex network of interest, in a way allowing to interpret them. We suppose the community structure has already been detected through one of the many methods proposed in the literature. The question is then to know how to extract valuable information from this first result,

Giant dielectric properties of CaCu3Ti4O12 ceramics synthesized by solid state reaction route [PDF]

open access: yesProcessing and Application of Ceramics, 2023
CaCu3Ti4O12 (CCTO) ceramics were prepared by solid-state reaction route, calcination at 1050°C for 4 h and sintering at 1050 and 1100°C for 8 h. X-ray diffraction and Raman studies of the CCTO powders and sintered samples confirmed the formation of ...
