Conception et comportement dynamiques des structures de génie civil : application aux ouvrages paravalanches Behaviour and design of civil engineering structures exposed to dynamic loads: the case of snow avalanches defence works [PDF]

open access: yesSciences, Eaux & Territoires, 2010
Optimiser la conception des ouvrages de protection contre les avalanches est une priorité pour la sécurité en montagne. Les auteurs nous démontrent ici comment la discipline du génie civil contribue à améliorer les connaissances sur le comportement des ...

The market for protection and the origin of the state [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
We examine a stark setting in which security or protection can be provided by self-governing groups or by for-profit entrepreneurs (kings, kleptocrats, or mafia dons).

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Inhibiting stearoyl‐CoA desaturase suppresses bone metastatic prostate cancer by modulating cellular stress, mTOR signaling, and DNA damage response

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bone metastasis in prostate cancer (PCa) patients is a clinical hurdle due to the poor understanding of the supportive bone microenvironment. Here, we identify stearoyl‐CoA desaturase (SCD) as a tumor‐promoting enzyme and potential therapeutic target in bone metastatic PCa.

RENEB interlaboratory comparison for biological dosimetry based on dicentric chromosome analysis and cobalt-60 exposures higher than 2.5 Gy

open access: yesScientific Reports
In previous RENEB interlaboratory comparisons based on the manual scoring of dicentric chromosomes, a tendency for systematic overestimation for doses > 2.5 Gy was found.

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...
