A Novel Connectivity Factor for Morphological Characterization of Membranes and Porous Media: A Simulation Study on Structures of Mono-Sized Spherical Particles

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2018
In this study, we propose to define a connectivity factor as the inverse of the diffusional tortuosity to measure quantitatively the connectivity of whatever type of structure.

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

Structural Aspects of Execution and Thermal Treatment of Welded Joints of Hardox Extreme Steel

open access: yesMetals, 2019
The paper presents structure and mechanical properties of welded joints of the high-strength, abrasive-wear resistant steel Hardox Extreme. It was shown that, as a result of welding this steel, structures conducive to lowering its abrasion-wear ...

Fractoconvex structures

open access: yes, 2018
We define a new structure on a space endowed with convexities, and call it a fractoconvex structure (or, a space with fractoconvexity). We introduce two operations on a set of fractoconvexities and in a special case we show that they satisfy the laws for

Structural Invariants, Structural Kinds, Structural Laws [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The paper has three parts. In the first part ExtOSR, an extended version of Ontic Structural Realism, will be introduced. ExtOSR considers structural properties as ontological primitives, where structural properties are understood as comprising both relational and structurally derived intrinsic properties or structure invariants.

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Organomonophosphines in PtPX3 (X=O, N, Cl, S, I, or Te): structural aspects

open access: yesMain Group Metal Chemistry, 2017
In this review the structural parameters of 20 mononuclear Pt(II) coordination complexes with an inner coordination sphere of PtPX3 (X=O, N, Cl, S, I or Te) are summarized and analyzed. The P-donor ligands are organomonophosphines.

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...
