On the basis of strut-and-tie models (STMs) in accordance with international concrete codes such as ACI 318-14, AASHTO LRFD, CSA A23.3, Eurocode2 and fibMC 2010, a safety-based evaluation of shear design methods for RC deep beams was performed and is ...

Improvement and Application of the Softened Strut-and-Tie Model
Previous experimental researches indicate that reinforced concrete beam-column joints play an important role in the mechanical properties of moment resisting frame structures, so as to require proper design. The aims of this paper are to predict the joint carrying capacity and cracks development theoretically.

Influence of shear reinforcement detailing on the shear capacity of reinforced concrete beams
Abstract Alternative shear reinforcement layouts that do not fully enclose the longitudinal tensile reinforcement can significantly improve the constructability of reinforced concrete (RC) members. However, their influence on shear transfer mechanisms is not yet fully understood. To address this gap, an experimental program comprising 10 shear tests on

Application of strut-and-tie model on eccentric columns
The popular strut-and-tie model is currently de fined by EC2 as a standard tool for simple structures. This paper explores the possibility of application of the strut and-tie model on more complex structures, specifically on the eccentric columns. Comparison with full numerical simulation shows that the strut-and-tie model can correctly predict the ...

Evaluating structural resistance and updating modeling uncertainties through testing
Abstract The aging of infrastructure necessitates a robust and rational methodology for the assessment of existing structures. Design codes provide general models which cover different design scenarios and are thus overly conservative. Also, such design approaches lack field data and, if applied directly to existing works, often lead to unnecessarily ...

Structural Performance of RC Beams containing Tension-Only Nodes
Strut and Tie (S&T) models are used for the design of what are known as “discontinuity regions” in reinforced concrete (RC) structures. Building codes such as ACI-318 and Eurocode 2 do not give information on the nodes that only connect ties in S&T ...

‘From the Fields Into the Bars’: The Story of Israel's First Transgender Novel, The Cut (1977)
ABSTRACT In 1977, an Israeli transgender woman, Judy Spotheim, published an autobiographical novel entitled The Cut. It describes the emergence of a trans community in the commercial‐sex areas of Tel Aviv‐Jaffa, hoping to humanise trans women (coccinelles). This article is the first to study the novel and present a biography of Spotheim.

Analysis and design of disturbed regions with strut-tie models
An interactive computer graphics program implementing the Strut-Tie model approach for analysis and design of reinforced and prestressed concrete members is presented. The program consists of three parts.

ABSTRACT The cultures and governance of security markets in the United Kingdom are often characterised through a paradoxical narrative of simultaneous state retreat and progressive advance. In the face of repeated recent high‐profile security failures, and global changes in material political economy, we argue that UK security governance is adapting to
