Recovery of phosphorus from stored urine using continuous flow reactor in decentralised level operations

open access: yesBlue-Green Systems, 2020
Past studies have shown that phosphate recovery in the form of struvite is relatively a simple process, which can be achieved by adding a magnesium source in stored urine.

Struvite-(K), KMgPO46H2O, the potassium equivalent of struvite a new mineral

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Mineralogy, 2008
The new mineral struvite-(K) is the natural potassium equivalent to struvite NH4MgPO4·6H2O. It was discovered independently at two different localities: (1) at the famous sulphosalt locality Lengenbach in Binntal, Switzerland, where it occurs in a dolomitic rock of Triassic age, in close association with various Pb-As-sulphosalts (mainly rathite).

Potential Influences of Bacterial Cell Surfaces and Nano-Sized Cell Fragments on Struvite Biomineralization

open access: yesCrystals, 2020
Struvite (MgNH4PO4·6H2O) calculi are formed as a result of urinary tract infections by Proteus mirabilis and other urease-producing bacteria. During struvite formation, the bacteria grow as biofilms, and thus crystals are formed in close association with

Influence of nutrition on feline calcium oxalate urolithiasis with emphasis on endogenous oxalate synthesis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The prevalence of calcium oxalate (CaOx) uroliths detected in cats with lower urinary tract disease has shown a sharp increase over the last decades with a concomitant reciprocal decrease in the occurrence of struvite (magnesium ammonium phosphate ...

Electrochemically induced precipitation enables fresh urine stabilization and facilitates source separation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Source separation of urine can enable nutrient recycling, facilitate wastewater management, and conserve water. Without stabilization of the urine, urea is quickly hydrolyzed into ammonia and (bi)carbonate, causing nutrient loss, clogging of collection ...

Struvite precipitation within wastewater treatment: A problem or a circular economy opportunity?

open access: yesHeliyon, 2022
Enhanced biological phosphorus removal at wastewater treatment plants that use anaerobic digesters for sludge treatment have historically encountered phosphate precipitation problems in the form of struvite.

Effect of Calcium Additive on the Crystallization of Struvite

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences, 2016
Crystallization of struvite [MgNH4PO4.6H2O] may lead to the deposition of scale which may create significant problems in the process pipes, pumps and other industrial equipment.
