Multistage, Self‐Sensing Artificial Muscles With Coordination From Liquid Crystal Elastomer‐Graphene Composite Fibers

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Inspired by skeletal muscles’ precision and endurance, CoilLCE integrates a self‐sensing liquid crystal elastomer/graphene artificial muscle with an embedded Joule‐heating copper coil, enabling closed‐loop multistage actuation with programmable intermediate states (strain accuracy of 2%), and antagonistic coordination (32% total strain). These features

How Teacher Turnover Harms Student Achievement [PDF]

open access: yes
Researchers and policymakers often assume that teacher turnover harms student achievement, but recent evidence calls into question this assumption. Using a unique identification strategy that employs grade-level turnover and two classes of fixed-effects ...

Designing Vanadium‐Based Oxide Electrocatalysts for Water Splitting: Experimental and Mechanistic Insights with Machine Learning

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This review establishes structure‐property‐mechanism relationships across six modification strategies for V‐based oxide water‐splitting electrocatalysts: lattice engineering, heteroatom doping, interface engineering, carbon‐based hybridization, morphology engineering, and surface reconstruction and pre‐catalyst design, where dissolution is reframed as ...

PORTUGUESE LANGUAGE CLASSROOM: IN THE FABRIC OF THE ENUNCIATIVE MISMATCH BETWEEN TEACHER AND STUDENT

open access: yesSignum: Estudos da Linguagem, 2016
The starting point of this article is the theoretical work of Benveniste (1958, 1968, 1970), and we are going to focus in the classroom from an enunciative perspective.

Selective Confidence-Guided Projection-Based Encoding for Medical Image Classification

open access: yesJournal of Imaging
Deep neural networks have achieved strong performance in medical image classification, but their deployment may be constrained by the computational cost of high-capacity models. Knowledge distillation (KD) addresses this problem by transferring knowledge

An Epigenetic Fate Converter Based on Nuclei‐Targeting Lipid Nanoparticles Drives Neuronal Programming of Stem Cells for Spinal Cord Repair

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Schematic illustration of LNP‐MPG nuclei‐targeting delivery of HMW‐FGF2 promoting histone acetylation to regulate the fate of DPSCs and treat spinal cord injury. LNPs components include pHMW‐FGF2 plasmid, DSPC, Dlin‐MC3‐DMA, cholesterol, and PEG2000, and are modified with MPG to form HMW‐FGF2@LNP‐MPG (HLM). HLM nuclei‐targets DPSCs to deliver HMW‐FGF2,

Bioinspired Hydrogels with Broadly Programmable Mechanics for Soft‐Tissue Interfaces

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Sea cucumber‐inspired gelatin hydrogels are formed by directional freezing and mechanically programmed through subsequent ionic treatment. Multiscale characterization and modeling link ion‐regulated chain interactions to directional load transfer within the aligned hierarchical architecture.

Analog Classification of Human Hand Gestures Exploiting Dendritic Integration With an Organic Artificial Soma

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
An organic neuromorphic architecture for the classification of human motor behavior is presented and validated. It performs somatic integration by linearly combining the activity from three muscles. An investigation of synaptic weights is presented and discussed in relationship with the classification performance.
