Global study of variability in olfactory sensitivity.

Behavioral Neuroscience, 2020
Variability in human olfactory sensitivity has been attributed to individual-level factors such as genetics, age, sex, medical history of infections and trauma, neurogenerative diseases, and emotional disorders. Scarce evidence exists on the cross-cultural variation in olfactory sensitivity.

Preterm delivery variables — Descriptive epidemiologic study

International Journal of Gynecology & Obstetrics, 2000
Objectives The aim of the study was to investigate epidemiologic variables influencing preterm delivery. Study Methods In the 6-year period from 1993 - 1998 all preterm deliveries from 22nd to 37th week of gestation were analyzed. Multiple pregnancies and stillbirth were excluded.

Demographic variables, smoking variables, and outcome across five studies.

Health Psychology, 2007
Intervention effectiveness can potentially be affected by membership in different demographic subgroups (race, ethnicity, gender, age, and education level) or smoking behavior variables (time to first cigarette, longest previous quit attempt, number of attempts in the past year, number of cigarettes, and stage of change).

Crossover Studies with Continuous Variables: Power Analysis

American Journal of Therapeutics, 2002
The crossover design is a sensitive means of determining the efficacy of new drugs because it eliminates between-subject variability. However, if the response in the first period carries on into the second (carryover effect) or if time factors cannot be kept constant in a lengthy crossover (time effects), its statistical power may be jeopardized.

Effects of Censored Variables on Family Studies

Behavior Genetics, 1997
In the present paper effects of censored variables on estimates of genetic and environmental influences were studied. Analytic results showed with 50% censoring, about 15-20% of the variance may be attributed to the wrong source and that this amount increases rapidly with more than 70% censoring.

Studying Relations Between Variables

2001
Univariate statistical methods cover applications in which there is a single response variable and any connections between the response variable and explanatory variables is through a mathematical rather than a probabilistic relation. This covers linear models and generalized linear models. The statistical task in univariate statistical applications is

Variability and Genetic Studies

1973
The science of cytogenetics is concerned with the mechanisms of heredity and variability at the cellular level. The chromosomal numbers in different species, chromosomal polymorphism and the behaviour of chromosomes during the process of replication are studied because of the importance for taxonomy and evolution.

Study of Variable Stars

1988
Variable stars are a field where the contribution of amateur astronomers is of great importance. This contribution can be separated in to complementary parts: 1) collaboration with professional institutes that well-equipped amateurs can easily undertake in the field of photoelectric observation; 2) visual observation of variable ...
