Density and height structure of seedlings in subalpine spruce forests of Central Europe: logs vs. stumps as a favourable substrate

open access: yesSilva Fennica, 2011
Decaying logs and stumps provide an important seedling substrate in natural subalpine forests. However, only stumps present such a role in managed forests.

dynoGP: Deep Gaussian Processes for Dynamic System Identification

open access: yesInternational Journal of Adaptive Control and Signal Processing, EarlyView.
This work introduces a novel class of deep models for system identification, dynamical deep Gaussian processes, which combine the strengths of data‐driven methods, such as those based on neural network architectures, with the ability to output a probability distribution for uncertainty representation.

Decomposition of stump and root systems of Norway spruce in Sweden [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The demand for quantifying the biomass of stumps and roots and the carbon stored therein is related to aspects of biodiversity, site productivity, atmospheric carbon cycling issues, and the demand for bioenergy.

Heart rot of spruce and alder in forests of Latvia [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Heart rot causes great decrease in timber quality throughout the world. In the conifer forests of Northern Hemisphere the most significant losses are caused by fungi from the Heterobasidion annosum species complex. The spread of the disease is favored by

Correction of stand variable estimates obtained by the stand reconstruction technique: can stump information improve the predictions? [PDF]

open access: yesСибирский лесной журнал, 2018
Information on thinned tree stumps was included in a stand reconstruction technique to test possible improvements in the estimates of stand variables (aboveground biomass, total stem volume, stem volume growth and stand density).

Tunable Complementary Doping Strategy Enables High‐Performance Homo‐Channel CMOS in Monolayer WSe2

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Polarity‐selective modulation enables a homo‐channel WSe2 CMOS platform from a single 2D semiconductor. MoOx and AlN tune WSe2 toward p‐ and n‐type operation, respectively, yielding complementary FETs and inverters with balanced switching, high voltage gain, low static power, and promising scalability for 2D logic integration.
