Genome Architecture and Speciation in Plants and Animals
ABSTRACT There have been numerous treatments of specific topics in speciation, but surprisingly few papers have compared patterns and processes of speciation across different organismal groups. In this review, we partially address this gap by asking how variation in genome architecture impacts speciation across the plant and animal kingdoms.

Mechanical shock during egg de-adhesion and post-ovulatory ageing contribute to spontaneous autopolyploidy in white sturgeon culture (Acipenser transmontanus) [PDF]
Spontaneous autopolyploidy, a 1.5x increase in genome size resulting from second polar body retention after fertilization, has been documented in cultured sturgeons, with the proportion of spontaneous autopolyploid progeny ranging widely among maternal ...

The cognitive role of concept variability
I present and defend concept variability, the view that concepts can admit of indefinitely many variations and changes in their representational contents without thereby losing their identity. I argue that the variability of concepts is central to their role in enabling cognition, and thus that a concept's content variability is, despite philosophical ...

Categorial versus naturalized epistemology
Abstract How do we know what kinds of things constitute knowledge or justified belief? Naturalized epistemology is committed to denying a priori insight into the kinds of kinds that are and are not knowledge or justification makers. By contrast, it is argued here that knowledge of these matters is a priori knowledge of a special kind.

ABSTRACT I defend the non‐instrumentalist thesis that every adult member of a political society has a pro tanto fundamental moral right to an equal democratic say in determining the content of the laws to which she is subject. I begin by giving an account of an important kind of servility that has received only glancing notice in philosophical ...

Isolation, characterization, and sequencing of nodavirus in sturgeon (Acipenser gueldestaedi L.) reared in freshwater facilities [PDF]
The study demonstrates the presence of a nodavirus that affected sturgeon in fresh water, caus- ing disease with neurological signs. The virus was isolated and inoculated onto SSN-1 (striped snakehead, Channa striatus) cell cultures where cytopathic ...

Abstract This paper introduces emergent moral non‐naturalism, which holds that moral properties depend on descriptive properties and normative bridge principles for their instantiation, where these principles specify instantiation conditions of moral properties in terms of descriptive properties.
