Factor Complexity of S-adic sequences generated by the Arnoux-Rauzy-Poincar\'e Algorithm [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The Arnoux-Rauzy-Poincar\'e multidimensional continued fraction algorithm is obtained by combining the Arnoux-Rauzy and Poincar\'e algorithms. It is a generalized Euclidean algorithm.

Substitutions and their Generalisations

open access: yesIsrael Journal of Chemistry, Volume 64, Issue 10-11, November 2024.
Abstract Tilings and point sets arising from substitutions are classical mathematical models of quasicrystals. Their hierarchical structure allows one to obtain concrete answers regarding spectral questions tied to the underlying measures and potentials.

On polynomials of Sheffer type arising from a Cauchy problem

open access: yesInternational Journal of Mathematics and Mathematical Sciences, Volume 2003, Issue 33, Page 2119-2137, 2003., 2003
A new sequence of eigenfunctions is developed and studied in depth. These theta polynomials are derived from a recent analytic solution of the canonical Cauchy problem for parabolic equations, namely, the inverse heat conduction problem. By appealing to the methods of the operator calculus, it is possible to categorize the new functions as polynomials ...

Solution of the momentum-space Schr\"odinger equation for bound states of the N-dimensional Coulomb problem (revisited)

open access: yes, 2011
The Schr\"odinger-Coulomb Sturmian problem in $\mathbb{R}^{N}$, $N\geqslant2$, is considered in the momentum representation. An integral formula for the Gegenbauer polynomials, found recently by Cohl [arXiv:1105.2735], is used to separate out angular ...

Picone identities for half-linear elliptic operators with p(x)-Laplacians and applications to Sturmian comparison theory [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Picone identities are established for a class of half-linear elliptic operators with p(x)-Laplacians, and Sturmian comparison theorems are obtained on the basis of the Picone identities.

Sturmian theorems for systems of differential equations

open access: yesInternational Journal of Mathematics and Mathematical Sciences, Volume 3, Issue 1, Page 177-184, 1980., 1979
Two Sturmian theorems are established for second order linear nonhomogeneous systems of two differential equations with the use of a maximum principle. The results also hold for homogeneous systems. For illustration, an example is given.

Free profinite locally idempotent and locally commutative semigroups [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
This paper is concerned with the structure of semigroups of implicit operations on the pseudovariety LSl of finite locally idempotent and locally commutative semigroups.

Comparison theorems for ultrahyperbolic equations

open access: yesInternational Journal of Mathematics and Mathematical Sciences, Volume 1, Issue 1, Page 31-40, 1978., 1978
Sturmian comparison theorems are obtained for solutions of a class of normal and singular ultrahyperbolic partial differential equations. In the singular case, solutions are considered which satisfy non‐standard boundary conditions.

The bifurcation locus for numbers of bounded type

open access: yes, 2019
We define a family B(t) of compact subsets of the unit interval which generalizes the sets of numbers whose continued fraction expansion has bounded digits. We study how the set B(t) changes as one moves the parameter t, and see that the family undergoes

Generalized Picone's identity and its applications

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Differential Equations, 2013
In this article we give a generalized version of Picone's identity in a nonlinear setting for the p-Laplace operator. As applications we give a Sturmian Comparison principle and a Liouville type theorem.
