Description of Hoplolaimus bachlongviensis sp. n. (Nematoda : Hoplolaimidae) from banana soil in Vietnam [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Background The genus Hoplolaimus Daday, 1905 belongs to the subfamily Hoplolaimine Filipiev, 1934 of family Hoplolaimidae Filipiev, 1934 (Krall 1990). Daday established this genus on a single female of H.

Effect of endotracheal tube plus stylet versus endotracheal tube alone on successful first-attempt tracheal intubation among critically ill patients: the multicentre randomised STYLETO study protocol

open access: yesBMJ Open, 2020
Introduction Tracheal intubation is one of the most daily practiced procedures performed in intensive care unit (ICU). It is associated with severe life-threatening complications, which can lead to intubation-related cardiac arrest.

Cretaceous lacewing larvae with binocular vision demonstrate the convergent evolution of sophisticated simple eyes

open access: yesInsect Science, EarlyView.
We report three ca. 100 million‐year‐old lacewing larvae with extraordinarily large stemmata. One of them additionally has a very wide head, which represents a previously unknown morphology. The arrangement of the stemmata indicates stereoscopic vision in these predatory larvae.

Flea‘in Around: A Look at the Identification, Preservation, Clearing, and Mounting of Siphonaptera [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Fleas are remarkable and highly specialized insects, with no part of their external anatomy being easily mistaken for that of any other insect. Due to their small size, the subtle differences among the distinguishing morphological characteristics of each

New structure in cell puncture activities by aphid stylets: a dual-mode EPG study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Intracellular punctures by aphid stylets appear as potential drop (pd) waveforms in DC electrical penetration graph (EPG) recordings. We used a dual-EPG device that recorded in one channel the ‘full EPG’ with R-plus emf-components (i.e., the usual DC EPG)

Understanding biological control function and trophic interaction dynamics of an artificially released predatory bug by DNA metabarcoding

open access: yesInsect Science, EarlyView.
This study investigated the dietary composition of Sycanus bifidus, a generalist predator of the assassin bug that is artificially released into citrus orchards, and uncovered its trophic structure across various pest species using metabarcoding‐based molecular gut content analysis.

Hemipteran vectors of stylet‐borne plant viruses: Aphids lead the charge

open access: yesInsect Science, EarlyView.
Among all sap‐feeding hemipterans, aphids stand out by far as the most important vectors of noncirculative plant viruses. Compared to whiteflies and mealybugs, aphids’ highly specialized stylet anatomy and distinct feeding behaviors contribute, together with other features of their biology, to their remarkable efficiency in transmitting stylet‐borne ...
