AbstractStylized chromosome images 1) serve as a format to test effects of preprocessing algorithms used in automated karyo‐typing; 2) enhance the ability of humans to perform quantitative analysis of chromosomal aberrations; 3) provide an alternative format for karyotype hard copies produced by automated systems.

Dendritic or branching structures are commonly seen in natural phenomena such as lightning, cracks, and vegetal growth. They are also often used for artistic or decorative purposes. We present a new procedural method for modeling dendritic structures based on a path planning approach.

While much research has focused on rendering physically-correct shadows, a "correct" shadow often exhibits unnecessary detail that distracts from the primary subject of the scene. Artists often prefer to have creative control over the rendered appearance of the shadow.

Chironomic stylization of intonation
The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2011Intonation stylization is studied using “chironomy,” i.e., the analogy between hand gestures and prosodic movements. An intonation mimicking paradigm is used. The task of the ten subjects is to copy the intonation pattern of sentences with the help of a stylus on a graphic tablet, using a system for real-time manual intonation modification.

Stylized Facts and Stylized Illusions: Inflation and Productivity Revisited
The Canadian Journal of Economics, 1996Recent estimates of a negative empirical relationship between inflation and the rate of growth of productivity provide a strong case for vigorous anti-inflationary policy. This paper tests the robustness of this evidence using long quarterly and annual datasets for four countries (Canada, United States, United Kingdom, West Germany).

Abstract The chapter explores the perceptual and epistemic structures of boomerang perception, as developed by María Lugones, by focusing on contemporary lived experiences of Latinas of commercialization and homogenization. Boomerang perception is the mechanism through which people of color are constructed through a white imaginary lens ...

Coding style is an important aspect of software development. We present a system that uses machine learning to deduce the coding style from a corpus of code and then applies this knowledge to convert arbitrary code to the learned style. We use a broad definition of coding style that includes spacing, indentation, naming, ordering, and equivalent ...
