Unmasking a subarachnoid hemorrhage [PDF]

open access: yesNeurology, 2013
A 53-year-old patient presented with acute headache. CT and intra/extracranial CT angiography were normal. A traumatic lumbar puncture showed 8,500 erythrocytes/mm3 and 24 leukocytes/mm3. MRI showed extensive sulcal fluid-attenuated inversion recovery (FLAIR) hyperintensities suggesting subarachnoid hemorrhage (figure).

Clinical outcome after first and recurrent hemorrhage in patients with untreated brain arteriovenous malformation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Background and Purpose: The morbidity from spontaneous hemorrhage of untreated brain arteriovenous malformations (AVM) is not well described. Methods: The 241 consecutive AVM patients (mean age 3716 years, 52% women) from the prospective Columbia AVM ...

Seminar in Epileptology: Normal awake and sleep patterns, interictal abnormalities, and ictal patterns on scalp EEG

open access: yesEpileptic Disorders, EarlyView.
Abstract The accurate interpretation of scalp EEG remains an instrumental diagnostic component of epilepsy care. Knowledge of what constitutes normal EEG findings, non‐epileptiform abnormalities, and epileptiform patterns—both ictal and interictal—is essential for appropriate patient management.

Persistent primitive hypoglossal artery presenting with perimesencephalic nonaneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage: A case report and review of literature

open access: yesInterdisciplinary Neurosurgery, 2020
Background: Persistent primitive hypoglossal artery (PPHA) is a rare remnant of the congenital carotid-basilar artery anastomosis, sometimes associated with subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH), and aneurysms are the more common cause.

Long‐term outcomes of a cohort of patients with pharmacoresistant neonatal epilepsy and negative brain MRI

open access: yesEpilepsia Open, EarlyView.
Abstract Objective Neonatal seizures initiate the onset of epilepsy in less than 20% of cases. Establishing accurate and prompt diagnosis for precision medicine, offering tailored care, and informing families about neurodevelopmental prognosis represents a significant challenge.

Multi‐Cohort Analysis Reveals Genetic Predispositions to Clonal Hematopoiesis as Mutation‐Specific Risk Factors for Stroke

open access: yesAdvanced Genetics, Volume 6, Issue 1, March 2025.
This study comprehensively evaluated the differential effect of clonal hematopoiesis (CH) mutations on the risk of various stroke subtypes and functional recovery. It shows that TET2 is associated with small vessel stroke possibly via a pro‐inflammatory pathway. Abstract Recent observational studies have found an association between Clonal Hematopoesis

Deep learning-based multiclass segmentation in aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage

open access: yesFrontiers in Neurology
IntroductionRadiological scores used to assess the extent of subarachnoid hemorrhage are limited by intrarater and interrater variability and do not utilize all available information from the imaging. Image segmentation enables precise identification and

Neuroprotection in Subarachnoid Hemorrhage [PDF]

open access: yesStroke, 2010
Despite advances in aneurysm ablation and the initial management of patients presenting with aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage, delayed cerebral ischemia remains a significant source of morbidity. Traditionally, delayed cerebral ischemia was thought to be a result of vasospasm of the proximal intracranial vessels, and clinical trials have relied ...

Aneurysms of the intracranial segment of the ophthalmic artery trunk. case report and systematic literature review [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Aneurysms arising from the ophthalmic artery trunk (OAT) are very rare, particularly in the artery's intracranial course. The onset of a subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) from a ruptured OAT aneurysm in this segment is extremely rare.
