Primula octopoda, a Stoloniferous New Species From Western Sichuan, China

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 9, September 2026.
Primula octopoda W.B.Ju & Q.Huang, a new species of Primula (Primulaceae) in sect. Aleuritia, is herein described and illustrated from Batang County, Sichuan Province, southwestern China. Morphologically, P. octopoda is most similar to P. stenocalyx, but it can be readily distinguished by its dwarf habit, the presence of stolons 2–7 cm in length ending

Tracing Ancient Migration Routes: Did Gloydius Pitvipers Disperse Across Paleo‐Tibet Through Temperate and Subtropical Corridors?

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 9, September 2026.
We investigated the evolutionary and biogeographic history of Himalayan and Hindu Kush Gloydius pitvipers by integrating time‐calibrated phylogenetic analyses with paleoclimatic reconstructions and species distribution modeling. Our results suggest an early Miocene origin in East and Southeast Asia, followed by westward dispersal across Paleo‐Tibet via

Global‐Scale Patterns of Host Transitions Suggest Contrasting Levels of Specialization Within Rhizoctonia solani

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 9, September 2026.
We combined a global rDNA‐ITS dataset with TEF‐1α sequences and newly sequenced isolates to examine phylogenetic signal, host associations, and population structure in the soil‐borne pathogen Rhizoctonia solani. Most anastomosis groups formed well‐supported clades, and host‐associated patterns corresponded more strongly with genetic structure than ...

De Novo Assembly and Comparative Analysis of the Complete Mitochondrial Genome of Mesenchytraeus (Annelida, Enchytraeidae)

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 9, September 2026.
This present the first mitochondrial genome dataset for 13 Mesenchytraeus species from the Changbai Mountain glacial refugium. Beyond characterizing standard genomic features, we perform comparative analyses of gene order, nucleotide composition, codon usage, and control region structure.

Loss of hemagglutination ability by H3N2 influenza A virus, subclade K

open access: yes
Seasonal human H3N2 influenza viruses, subclade K (J.2.4.1), have been the predominant influenza A viruses in the Northern hemisphere influenza season of 2025/2026.

Evolution of the α‐Glucosidase Gene Family in Apoidea

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 9, September 2026.
This study traces the origin of the α‐glucosidase gene family in bees back to approximately 140 million years ago, revealing that its evolutionary history closely aligns with the rise of angiosperms and coevolution. Furthermore, by identifying the core members Hbg1–3 and 28 key functional sites driven by positive selection, the study systematically ...

Pleistocene Legacies in the Contemporary Population Genetic Structure of an Acid‐Specialised Crayfish, the Threatened Sand Yabby Cherax robustus

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 9, September 2026.
This study describes the contemporary genetic structure of a vulnerable short‐range endemic crayfish which is restricted to the heavily fragmented heathland‐peatland complexes of southeast Queensland across a range of approximately 200 km2. Using high‐resolution genome‐wide SNP sequencing, we estimate that population divergence in this species ...

Recurrent Body Shape Patterns in Cave‐ and Surface‐Dwelling Trichomycterid Catfishes

open access: yesJournal of Morphology, Volume 287, Issue 9, September 2026.
Multivariate shape analyses reveal that body shape consistently differs between cave‐ and surface‐dwelling trichomycterids in northeastern Colombia, with cave species exhibiting fusiform bodies while surface species showed deeper shapes consistently in different clades.

Genomic Epidemiology and Clinical Characteristics of Mpox Lineage C.1 Outbreak in Thailand, 2023–2024

open access: yesJournal of Medical Virology, Volume 98, Issue 9, September 2026.
ABSTRACT Since 2022, human monkeypox virus (hMPXV) has emerged in non‐endemic regions, including Thailand. However, the genomic dynamics and clinical correlates of local transmission remain incompletely defined. Whole‐genome sequencing was performed on hMPXV from 16 patients in Thailand (2023–2024) using targeted amplicon NGS.

Early Mpox Detection: Integrating Skin Lesion Imaging, Epidemiology, and Treatment for Deep Learning Approaches

open access: yesMedicine Advances, Volume 4, Issue 3, Page 287-296, September 2026.
Research papers utilizing publicly available, web‐scraped resources related to mpox—including news portals and datasets such as Monkeypox2022, Kaggle, and the Monkeypox Skin Images Dataset—demonstrate variability in accuracy. Our findings suggest that although deep learning models such as MobileNetV2, VGG16, and GoogLeNet report accuracy exceeding 95%,
