Socioeconomic Status and Subclinical Coronary Disease in the Whitehall II Epidemiological Study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Background: There are pronounced socioeconomic disparities in coronary heart disease, but the extent to which these primarily reflect gradients in underlying coronary artery disease severity or in the clinical manifestation of advanced disease is ...

Factors associated with carotid Intima media thickness and carotid plaque score in community-dwelling and non-diabetic individuals

open access: yesBMC Cardiovascular Disorders, 2018
Background The carotid intima media thickness (cIMT) and carotid plaque score (cPS) are respective markers of early and late stage subclinical atherosclerosis.

Microvascular Damage Is Associated With Carotid Wall Structural Changes in Systemic Sclerosis: A Capillaroscopy and Ultrasound‐Based Observational Study

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective Systemic sclerosis (SSc) is characterized by cardiovascular risk excess not fully explained by traditional factors. Whether the severity of microvascular damage correlates with structural subclinical atherosclerosis remains unclear. We investigated the relationship between nailfold videocapillaroscopy (NVC) abnormalities and carotid ...

Clinical periodontal diagnosis

open access: yesPeriodontology 2000, EarlyView., 2023
Abstract Periodontal diseases include pathological conditions elicited by the presence of bacterial biofilms leading to a host response. In the diagnostic process, clinical signs such as bleeding on probing, development of periodontal pockets and gingival recessions, furcation involvement and presence of radiographic bone loss should be assessed prior ...

MRE11A Polymorphisms Are Associated With Subclinical Atherosclerosis and Cardiovascular Risk Factors. A Case-Control Study of the GEA Mexican Project

open access: yesFrontiers in Genetics, 2019
DNA damage and subsequent repair pathways have been involved in the initiation and progression of atherosclerosis. Meiotic recombination 11 homolog A (MRE11A) gene polymorphisms have been associated with the presence of myocardial infarction. We analyzed

Urinary albumin-to-creatinine ratio levels are associated with subclinical atherosclerosis and predict CVD events and all-cause deaths: a prospective analysis

open access: yesBMJ Open, 2021
Objective We aimed to examine the associations of urinary albumin-to-creatinine ratio (ACR) levels with risks of subclinical atherosclerosis, cardiovascular events and all-cause deaths. Methods Data from a large population-based cohort were used, which ...

Lower bone mass is associated with subclinical atherosclerosis, endothelial dysfunction and carotid thickness in the very elderly

open access: yes, 2020
Osteoporosis and coronary heart disease (CHD) are very common conditions among elderly people, and both represent a public health concern due to their prognostic consequences. Osteoporosis and CHD share many risk factors and pathophysiological mechanisms,

Cerebral Hemodynamic Changes in Older Adults With Cognitive Complaints According to the Presence of Peripheral Artery Disease

open access: yesAGING MEDICINE, EarlyView.
Among 132 older adults, 13 had peripheral artery disease (PAD), identified using the ankle–brachial index. Over approximately 13 months, PAD was associated with increasing middle cerebral artery mean flow velocity, with a significant difference in left‐sided velocity change between groups.

Periodontitis and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease: A critical appraisal

open access: yesPeriodontology 2000, EarlyView., 2023
Abstract In spite of intensive research efforts driving spectacular advances in terms of prevention and treatments, cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) remain a leading health burden, accounting for 32% of all deaths (World Health Organization. “Cardiovascular Diseases (CVDs).” WHO, February 1, 2017, https://www.who.int/news‐room/fact‐sheets/detail ...

Unveiling Silent Atherosclerosis in Type 1 Diabetes: The Role of Glycoprotein and Lipoprotein Lipidomics, and Cardiac Autonomic Neuropathy

open access: yesMetabolites
Introduction: This study aimed to evaluate whether glycoprotein and lipoprotein lipidomics profiles could enhance a clinical predictive model for carotid subclinical atherosclerosis in patients with type 1 diabetes (T1D).
