Techno‐Economic Analysis of Hydrocarbon‐CO2 Binary Mixtures in Heat Pump‐Based Thermal Energy Storages

open access: yesEnergy Technology, Volume 14, Issue 4, April 2026.
Heat‐pump charging of Carnot batteries with zeotropic large temperature glide CO2–alkane mixtures enables charging from ambient to ≈398.15 K with improved heat‐exchanger temperature matching at moderate pressure ratios. The highest COP occurs near xCO2 ≈ 0.15, whereas cost and throttling losses rise monotonically with CO2 content; butane isomers ...

Opportunities for Multiscale Pattern Modulation with Temporally Arrested Breath Figures

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, Volume 13, Issue 5, 4 March 2026.
This works presents the temporally arrested breath figure methodology and its opportunities for pattern modulation. Through thermodynamic and photochemical phase change handles, this method uses drop‐wise condensation as a dynamic template for fast, accessible and scalable micropatterning.

Performance Investigation of Eco‐Friendly Refrigerant Mixtures as an Alternative to R134a in Vapour‐Compression Refrigeration System

open access: yesAsia-Pacific Journal of Chemical Engineering, Volume 21, Issue 2, March/April 2026.
ABSTRACT The growing impacts of climate change and energy scarcity demand environmentally sustainable refrigeration solutions. This study investigates eco‐friendly refrigerants (R152a, R290 and R600a) and their optimized ternary mixture as alternatives to R134a. Four blend compositions were analysed using experimental testing and REFPROP 10.0 modelling

Performance of Transcritical CO2 Air-source Heat Pump Heating System with Mechanical Subcooling Using Zeotropic Refrigerant

open access: yesZhileng xuebao, 2021
In this study, a mechanical subcooling transcritical CO2 heat pump heating system using a zeotropic refrigerant is proposed. A thermodynamic model is developed for this system and compared with that using a pure refrigerant. The results indicate that the

Seismo‐Acoustic Evidence for Meteoric Water Modulation of Hydrothermal Fluid Discharge

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth, Volume 131, Issue 3, March 2026.
Abstract Deciphering the signal of external processes on active hydrothermal dynamics represents a critical challenge in understanding volcanic unrest. At the Pisciarelli hydrothermal site, located within the densely populated Campi Flegrei caldera (Italy), we investigate the role of meteoric water influx in modulating shallow hydrothermal fluid ...

Performance Analysis of a Transcritical CO2 Heat Pump with Mechanical Subcooling for Space Heating

open access: yesZhileng xuebao, 2019
The thermal performance of a traditional transcritical CO2 heat pump for space heating in winter can be improved by mechanical subcooling using a simple vapor-compression cycle.

Heat Transfer to Subcooled He I [PDF]

open access: yes, 1984
Designers of cryostable superconducting magnets, which operate in pool boiling He I, are aware of critical heat flux densities. The regions of most general interest are the peak nucleate boiling and recovery heat fluxes at a conductor temperature no more than a few hundred millikelvin above the pool temperature. Systems which depend on nucleate boiling

A Model‐Based Interpretation for the Apparently Homogeneous Steam Bubble Nucleation in Industrial Evaporative Sucrose Crystallization

open access: yesJournal of Food Process Engineering, Volume 49, Issue 3, March 2026.
A model has been developed and validated with data from the sugar industry to determine the evaporation rate of discontinuous evaporating crystallizers. The results indicate that vapor nucleation on the surface of sucrose crystals is a significant factor, particularly in the context of low temperature differences in the calandria.

Assessment of CTF boiling transition and critical heat flux modeling capabilities using the OECD/NRC BFBT and PSBT benchmark databases [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The need to refine models for best-estimate calculations, based on good-quality experimental data, has been expressed in many recent meetings in the field of nuclear applications.
