Analytical Solutions for Optimizing Saltwater Extraction and Freshwater Lens Protection in Saline Riparian Aquifers

open access: yesWater Resources Research, Volume 62, Issue 9, September 2026.
Abstract Saltwater extraction is a key strategy of the Salt Interception Schemes (SIS) in Australia's Murray River Basin, aimed at intercepting saline groundwater loads to the river and adjacent floodplains. Despite their widespread application, a general analytical framework is lacking to evaluate how pumping configuration and regional boundary ...

Dune Evanescence at Flood Stage in Lowland Sand‐Bed Rivers: A 2D Modeling Approach With Dynamic Resistance

open access: yesWater Resources Research, Volume 62, Issue 9, September 2026.
Abstract Bedforms in lowland sand‐bed rivers, which contribute substantially to total flow resistance, are known to adapt to changing flow conditions. While the growth of subaqueous dunes with increasing bedload transport and their wash‐out at higher transport stages are well documented in laboratory experiments, their possible evanescence in lowland ...

Cranberry Pomace Valorization: Composition, Extraction, Bioactivity, and Food Applications

open access: yesComprehensive Reviews in Food Science and Food Safety, Volume 25, Issue 5, September 2026.
ABSTRACT Cranberry pomace, the principal solid residue generated during cranberry processing, is increasingly recognized as a compositionally valuable coproduct rather than a waste material. This is particularly relevant in North America, where cranberry production is concentrated in the United States and Canada, the two leading producing countries ...

Green Extraction Techniques for Recovering Polyphenols From Cocoa Bean Shells for Application in Food Processing: A Systematic Review

open access: yesJournal of Food Science, Volume 91, Issue 9, September 2026.
ABSTRACT Cocoa bean shells (CBSs), a by‐product of cocoa processing, are an underutilized source of bioactive polyphenols with strong potential for functional food applications. Although several studies and reviews have investigated polyphenol extraction techniques, gaps remain in consolidating findings, optimizing extraction conditions, and ...

AI‐Driven Strategies for Automated Microalgae Production Systems: Enhancing Yield, Efficiency, and Commercial Viability

open access: yesGCB Bioenergy, Volume 18, Issue 9, September 2026.
Microalgal bioproduct production is constrained by high cultivation costs. Integrating automated photobioreactors, real‐time pH, light and temperature control, AI‐driven automation, and electronic data logging enables smart cultivation, reduces manual intervention, improves process efficiency, and supports cost‐effective, scalable microalgal bioproduct

Architected Glass‐Ceramics

open access: yesJournal of the American Ceramic Society, Volume 109, Issue 9, September 2026.
Controlled crystallization converts a precursor glass into a glass‐ceramic comprising crystalline phases embedded within a residual glass matrix. When crystal size, refractive‐index mismatch, and phase assemblage are carefully controlled, optical transparency can be retained by minimizing light scattering.

Numerical Identification of Stationary States and Their Stability in a Model of Quantum Droplets

open access: yesStudies in Applied Mathematics, Volume 157, Issue 3, September 2026.
ABSTRACT In this work, we are motivated by a recent variant of the nonlinear Schrödinger (NLS) equation describing cold, dilute atomic condensates with quantum fluctuation effects. Our goal is to develop robust numerical methods capable of uncovering diverse stationary solutions in such NLS models.

Well‐posedness of heat equations with nonlinearities of arbitrarily rapid growth

open access: yesProceedings of the London Mathematical Society, Volume 133, Issue 3, September 2026.
Abstract We address local‐ and global‐in‐time well‐posedness of the Cauchy problem for nonlinear heat equations without imposing growth rate restrictions on the nonlinearity a priori. Our results constitute a nontrivial expansion of the classical Lq$L^q$‐theory for nonlinearities dominated by polynomial growth and the exponential‐Orlicz space theory ...

Simple homotopy theory for Fukaya categories

open access: yesJournal of Topology, Volume 19, Issue 3, September 2026.
Abstract We develop a categorical framework for simple homotopy theory in Fukaya categories, based on the fundamental group of the ambient symplectic manifold. When the first Chern class vanishes, we show that any isomorphism in the Fukaya category of a Weinstein manifold has trivial Whitehead torsion.

Time‐dependent (Creep) Compaction in Volcanic Rocks

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 16, 28 August 2026.
Abstract Porous volcanic rocks form volcanic edifices and host key geothermal reservoirs worldwide. When subjected to constant stress above dilatancy in the brittle regime, these materials undergo time‐dependent failure known as brittle creep. In the ductile regime, where deformation is compactive, time‐dependent compaction—compaction creep—has been ...
