Abstract 13716: Implanting an Extravascular ICD in Patients With a Prior Subcutaneous ICD

Circulation, 2023
Background: The Extravascular Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (EV ICD) has been demonstrated as an effective therapy to treat sudden cardiac death using a substernal lead position. Limited data regarding the use of EV ICD in patients with prior subcutaneous ICD (S-ICD) is available ...

Head-To-Head Comparison of Arrhythmia Discrimination Performance of Subcutaneous and Transvenous ICD Arrhythmia Detection Algorithms: The START Study

open access: yesJournal of Cardiovascular Electrophysiology, 2012
Arrhythmia Detection with S-ICD Versus Transvenous ICDs. Background: The development of a totally subcutaneous implantable defibrillator (S-ICD) system requires a new approach for arrhythmia detection.

Subcutaneous and Transvenous ICDs: an Update on Contemporary Questions and Controversies

Current Cardiology Reports, 2022
While the subcutaneous (S-) implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICDs) is an alternative to the transvenous (TV-) ICD in many patients, optimal use remains unclear. In this review, we summarize recent clinically relevant data on sensing algorithms, inappropriate shocks, defibrillation testing, and battery and electrode failures.Changes in sensing ...

Performance of the entirely subcutaneous ICD in borderline indications

Clinical Research in Cardiology, 2019
The subcutaneous ICD (S-ICD™) is an important advance in device therapy for prevention of sudden cardiac death (SCD). In some patients, decision pro- or contra-ICD implantation is particularly challenging due to inconsistent data on risk of ventricular tachyarrhythmias or sudden cardiac death, rare entities, special medical or family history, or ...

The “Pain wave”: P‑wave oversensing in subcutaneous ICD

Herzschrittmachertherapie + Elektrophysiologie, 2016
A 46-year old man was implanted with a totally subcutaneous implantable defibrillator, after having a documented episode of cardiac arrest due to idiopathic ventricular fibrillation. During the 4‑month follow-up, an episode of inappropriate triple counting due to P‑ and T‑wave oversensing was detected.

[Current status and problems of the entirely subcutaneous ICD (S-ICD®)].

Herzschrittmachertherapie & Elektrophysiologie, 2014
Prevention of sudden cardiac death is one of the most important tasks of cardiology. Transvenous ICD-systems have impressively proven their effectiveness in numerous randomized trials. Transvenous systems have their limitations due to frequent long-term lead complications.

Novel ICD therapy begets novel ICD detection: First look at the performance of the subcutaneous ICD discrimination algorithm

Heart Rhythm, 2014
to FDA approval of the S-ICD. 2 Certainly, one of the greatest challenges with ICD therapy has been the unacceptably high incidence of inappropriate and unnecessary ICD therapies. This is, after all, a 430-year lesson in diagnostic humility, ever since the first implantable defibrillator came into being.
