Exhumation of (ultra-)high-pressure terranes: concepts and mechanisms [PDF]
The formation and exhumation of high and ultra-high-pressure, (U)HP, rocks of crustal origin appears to be ubiquitous during Phanerozoic plate subduction and continental collision events.

Spatial Variations of Tectonic Uplift - Subducting Plate Effects on the Guerrero Forearc, Mexico
Uplift is the predominant factor controlling fluvial systems in tectonically deforming regions. Mountains along subduction zones force incision, aggradation, or sinuosity modifications, showing differential uplift and variations in erosion rates, in ...

Insights from elastic thermobarometry into exhumation of high-pressure metamorphic rocks from Syros, Greece [PDF]
Retrograde metamorphic rocks provide key insights into the pressure–temperature (P–T) evolution of exhumed material, and resultant P–T constraints have direct implications for the mechanical and thermal conditions of subduction interfaces.

Continental break‐up is an ingredient of plate tectonics and the Wilson cycle. During the evolution of the Tethyan Realm since the Paleozoic, a series of ribbon‐like (micro‐)continents are split from the Gondwana and drifted northwards to the Eurasian ...

Fate of Carbonates in the Earth’s Mantle (10-136 GPa)
Earth carbon cycle shapes the evolution of our planet and our habitats. As a key region of carbon cycle, subduction zone acts as a sole channel transporting supracrustal carbonate rocks down to the mantle, balancing carbon budget between the Earth’s ...

Numerical modelling of seismic wave propagation along the plate contact of the Hellenic Subduction Zonethe influence of a deep subduction channel [PDF]
SUMMARY We model seismic wave propagation from intermediate depth earthquakes in a subduction zone using a 2-D Chebyshev pseudospectral method. Particular attention is directed to the influence of a deep, low-viscosity subduction channel on top of the plate contact where metamorphic rocks may be exhumed by forced return flow.

Geological processes at subduction zones control seismicity, plutonism and volcanism, and geochemical cycling between the oceans, crust, and mantle. The down-going plate experiences metamorphism, and the associated dehydration and fluid flow alters the ...

The plate tectonic evolution controls the mass and energy circulation between the Earth's surface and interior, during which the volatiles (e.g., water and carbon) could also accompany the tectonic up- and down-wellings.
