Notable Impact of Paleotectonic Stress on Gold Mineralisation in the West Qinling Orogen

open access: yesGeological Journal, EarlyView.
By applying fuzzy clustering and multiple inverse methods, we systematically processed the data of vein and fault slip in this ore deposit to reveal the transition of orogenic geological environment and paleotectonic stress field. Our research results show two different stress states: the northwest–southeast extensional stress field and the northeast ...

Inner forearc faults in northern Cascadia do not accommodate elastic strain driven by the megathrust seismic cycle

open access: yesSeismica
We employ numerical models to explore the connection between subduction zone coupling or megathrust rupture and upper plate faults in the northern Cascadia forearc.

An introductory review of the thermal structure of subduction zones: III—Comparison between models and observations

open access: yesProgress in Earth and Planetary Science, 2023
The thermal structure of subduction zones is fundamental to our understanding of the physical and chemical processes that occur at active convergent plate margins. These include magma generation and related arc volcanism, shallow and deep seismicity, and

On the fluid-mobility of molybdenum, tungsten, and antimony in subduction systems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Molybdenum (Mo) and tungsten (W) have long been regarded as being more or less immobile during slab fluid-induced arc magma generation. Here we characterize about 180 samples of young, predominantly mafic to intermediate tephras and lavas for their Mo,

Persistent elastic behavior above a megathrust rupture patch: Nias island, West Sumatra [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
We quantify fore-arc deformation using fossil reefs to test the assumption commonly made in seismic cycle models that anelastic deformation of the fore arc is negligible.

Holocene climate oscillations, seismotectonic events and human–environmental interactions reconstructed from the Giannades palaeolake on Corfu (Eastern Mediterranean, Greece)

open access: yesJournal of Quaternary Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The Mediterranean is particularly sensitive to rapid climate changes (RCCs) during the Holocene. An increasing number of natural climate archives revealed that socio‐economic developments were influenced by such RCCs since the Palaeolithic. However, multi‐millennial and high‐resolution archives are still rare and often located in mountainous ...

Onset of double subduction controls plate motion reorganisation

open access: yesNature Communications
Face-to-face double subduction systems, in which two oceanic plates subduct toward each other, are essential elements of plate tectonics. Two subduction zones in such systems are typically uneven in age and their spatially and temporally variable ...

Three-dimensional variations of the slab geometry correlate with earthquake distributions at the Cascadia subduction system

open access: yesNature Communications, 2018
Variations in seismicity are observed at subduction zones, but the oceanic sides remain poorly resolved. Here, the author presents tomographic results of the Cascadia subduction system demonstrating that there are significant variations of the oceanic ...

A Common Reference Material for Mass‐Dependent Sn Isotope Compositions: An Inter‐Laboratory Calibration Approach

open access: yesGeostandards and Geoanalytical Research, EarlyView.
Key Points We recommend using the notation δ122/118SnNIST SRM 3161a for mass‐dependent Sn isotope data. We derived conversion factors relative to NIST SRM 3161a for Puri Sn CEZA (0.132 ± 0.011‰), Sn Lyon (0.229 ± 0.016‰), Sn IPGP (0.162 ± 0.018‰). Tin isotope compositions are presented for SPEX CertiPrep Sn and nine USGS reference materials.

Tectonic significance of changes in post-subduction Pliocene-Quaternary magmatism in the south east part of the Carpathian-Pannonian Region [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The south-eastern part of the Carpathian–Pannonian region records the cessation of convergence between the European platform/Moesia and the Tisza–Dacia microplate.
