Submandibular Ectopic Thyroid Gland
Clinical Nuclear Medicine, 1996A 45-year-old euthyroid woman had symmetric submandlbular masses. Radionuclide imaging with Tc-99m pertechnetate will hide the presence of ectopic thyroid tissue because of the physiologic radionuclide uptake by the salivary glands, whereas a study using radioactive iodine allows a correct diagnosis.

Journal of Craniofacial Surgery, 2006Ectopic thyroid glands are generally a rare entity appearing mostly in the cervical midline (90% of the cases) and even more rarely in other anatomical sites (10%). We present the case of an ectopic submandibular thyroid gland. An 81-year-old woman was referred to our department with a history of right-sided submandibular swelling.

BMJ Case ReportsLeiomyoma is a benign tumour of smooth muscle origin. Leiomyoma arising in major salivary gland is under-reported. We report a case of a woman in her 40s with a submandibular gland tumour which represented a diagnostic challenge during preoperative assessment.
