Küttner Tumor: IgG4-Related Disease of the Submandibular Gland [PDF]
Küttner tumor/chronic sclerosing sialadenitis is a fibroinflammatory process that characteristically involves the submandibular gland of patients with IgG4-related disease. Histologic examination is often important to make the diagnosis because of its nonspecific clinical and radiologic findings.

Submandibular gland needle biopsy for the diagnosis of Parkinson disease [PDF]
This study investigates salivary gland biopsies in living patients with Parkinson disease (PD).Patients with PD for ≥5 years underwent outpatient transcutaneous needle core biopsies (18-gauge or 16-gauge) of 1 submandibular gland. Minor salivary glands were removed via a small incision in the lower lip.

Darier's disease with involvement of both submandibular glands.
Salivary gland obstruction in association with Darier's disease is described. Histological examination of both submandibular glands revealed squamous metaplasia of the ducts with suprabasal cleft formation and occlusion of the lumen.

Spontaneous Regression of Swollen Submandibular Glands in IgG4-Related Disease [PDF]
Background IgG4-related disease is a new clinical entity frequently associated with swelling of the submandibular glands (SMGs). The long-term outcome of SMG swelling without steroid therapy remains unknown. Objective To examine whether swollen SMGs spontaneously regress without steroid therapy in the context of IgG4-related disease and to identify ...

Submandibular Gland Biopsy for the Diagnosis of Parkinson Disease [PDF]
The clinical diagnosis of Parkinson disease (PD) is incorrect in 30% or more of subjects particularly at the time of symptom onset. Because Lewy-type α-synucleinopathy is present in the submandibular glands of PD patients, we assessed the feasibility of submandibular gland biopsy for diagnosing PD.

Rosai-Dorfman disease of the submandibular gland
Background: Only 8 cases of Rosai-Dorfman disease (RDD) involving the submandibular gland (SMG) have been reported. We report one more such case, involving a 51-year-old man, thus, adding to the available body of knowledge for this specific pathology. Methods: The patient presented with a growing mass in the right SMG.

Differentially Aquaporin 5 Expression in Submandibular Glands and Cerebral Cortex in Alzheimer’s Disease [PDF]
Impaired brain clearance mechanisms may result in the accumulation of aberrant proteins that define Alzheimer’s disease (AD). The water channel protein astrocytic aquaporin 4 (AQP4) is essential for brain amyloid-β clearance, but it is known to be abnormally expressed in AD brains. The expression of AQPs is differentially regulated during diverse brain

Ultrasound in Patients With Clinically Suspected Submandibular Gland Disease
Background: The submandibular gland is quite common to be affected by various disease processes in all age groups that may be difficult to differentiate clinically. Its superficial location makes it readily accessible to ultrasound evaluation. Objective: To evaluate sonographic features of abnormal submandibular gland.

Plexiform neurofibroma of the submandibular gland in patient with von Recklinghausen's disease [PDF]
Plexiform neurofibroma of the submandibular gland is an extremely rare tumor. Herein, we report a case of plexiform neurofibroma in a patient with a von Recklinghausen's disease (NF-1) who presented with a submandibular mass mimicking a submandibular gland tumor. Complete surgical excision provides the best treatment and final diagnosis.

Feasibility of repeat and bilateral submandibular gland needle biopsies in Parkinson's disease
Submandibular gland (SMG) biopsies detect pathological alpha-synuclein (aSyn) in patients with Parkinson's disease (PD). The objectives of this study were to determine 1) the feasibility of performing a second SMG biopsy in previously biopsied patients, 2) the feasibility of doing bilateral SMG biopsies, 3) laterality of aSyn density, 4) whether aSyn ...
