Diseases of the submandibular gland as demonstrated using high resolution ultrasound

The British Journal of Radiology, 2005
In this review the high resolution ultrasound appearances of the normal anatomy and pathology involving the submandibular gland are demonstrated. The submandibular gland is affected by a number of disease processes that may be difficult to distinguish clinically.

Bilateral Submandibular Gland Transplantations for Pediatric Several Dry Eye Disease

2021
A 9-year-old female patient was referred for severe dry eye disease for 3 years. The disease was caused by Steven-Johnson syndrome, and the patient complained of dryness, burning, foreign body sensation, itching, and red-eye of both eyes (Fig. 46.1).

Histologic assessment of the submandibular glands in autoimmune‐disease‐prone mice

Journal of Oral Pathology & Medicine, 1990
Submandibular glands were examined from three autoimmune‐disease‐prone strains of mice (NZB/W, MRL/1 and MRL/n) and controls (C57BL/6J). Focal lymphocytic adenitis was more prevalent and more severe in autoimmune‐disease‐prone strains than controls and in females than males. Lymphocytic foci were more frequent in older age groups, but female MRL/1 mice

Symmetry of synuclein density in autopsied Parkinson’s disease submandibular glands

Neuroscience Letters
Peripheral tissue biopsy in Parkinson's disease (PD) may be valuable for clinical care, biomarker validation, and as research enrollment criteria.Determine whether submandibular gland pathologic alpha-synuclein (aSyn) density is symmetrical and whether previous needle biopsy caused tissue damage.Thirty autopsy-confirmed PD cases having fixed ...

Evaluation of submandibular versus labial salivary gland fibrosis in IgG4-related disease

Modern Rheumatology, 2013
The newly comprehensive diagnostic criteria in 2011 emphasize the importance of IgG4-positive plasmacyte infiltration along with storiform or swirling fibrosis and obliterative phlebitis in diagnosing IgG4-related disease(RD). Although labial salivary gland (LSG) biopsy is a minimally invasive and convenient procedure for obtaining tissues, LSG ...

Feasibility of repeat and bilateral submandibular gland needle biopsies in Parkinson's disease

Parkinsonism & Related Disorders, 2019
Submandibular gland (SMG) biopsies detect pathological alpha-synuclein (aSyn) in patients with Parkinson's disease (PD). The objectives of this study were to determine 1) the feasibility of performing a second SMG biopsy in previously biopsied patients, 2) the feasibility of doing bilateral SMG biopsies, 3) laterality of aSyn density, 4) whether aSyn ...

Histological and histoquantitative study of the rat submandibular gland in chagas disease

Archives of Oral Biology, 1980
Abstract The submandibular glands of young rats killed at intervals after inoculation with the Y strain of Trypanosoma cruzi showed accelerated acinar development together with retarded duct-system maturation particularly in developing granular ducts.

Hydatid Disease of the Submandibular Gland Diagnosed by Fine Needle Aspiration

Acta Cytologica, 2009
BACKGROUND Hydatid cyst of the head and neck region is uncommon, and involvement ofthe salivary glands, especially the submandibular gland, is very rare. We describe a case ofsunbmandibular gland hydatid cyst, diagnosed by fine needle aspiration (FNA). CASE A case of submandibular gland hydatid cyst is reported in a patient who presented with swelling ...

[DIAGNOSTIC, CLINIC AND TREATMENT OF DISEASES OF SUBMANDIBULAR SALIVARY GLAND].

Georgian medical news, 2020
The purpose of the research was to study the structure of diseases of the submandibular salivary gland, to improve the diagnosis and effectiveness of the surgical treatment of patients with diseases of the submandibular salivary glands. A survey and treatment of 1094 patients with diseases of the submandibular salivary glands was performed.

Sonographic Appearance of the Submandibular Glands in Patients With Immunoglobulin G4-Related Disease

Journal of Ultrasound in Medicine, 2012
Swelling of the salivary glands is often an initial sign of immunoglobulin G4 (IgG4)-related disease or IgG4-related sclerosing/autoimmune disease. We encountered 2 patients with IgG4-related disease who showed swollen submandibular glands with a unique characteristic sonographic pattern.
