Carryover of Bracken Fern Toxins into Food, particularly into Water, Goat Milk and Goat Cheese from Swiss Alpine Farms

open access: yesFood Risk Assess Europe, Volume 4, Issue 4, October 2026.
Abstract In recent years there has been growing interest in bracken toxins, in understanding their effect, occurrence and prevention. Most of these substances are glycosides and are therefore highly water soluble and mobile. They can transfer to drinking water or via livestock to milk and meat, thereby potentially posing a health risk.

Fault Slip Reversals Preceded the Intraplate 2021 Earthquake Series in the Vienna Basin (Central Europe)

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 18, 28 September 2026.
Abstract Fault‐slip reversals indicate transient stress changes and may illuminate earthquake preparation processes. Here we present high‐resolution observations of sub‐millimetric creep and slip reversals on the Altaquelle Fault, a Quaternary normal fault in the southern Vienna Basin, preceding a regionally significant intraplate earthquake sequence ...

Typhoon‐Driven Near‐Surface Groundwater Dynamics Revealed by Ambient Noise in the Mountain Watershed

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 18, 28 September 2026.
Abstract Near‐surface groundwater dynamics (NSGD) regulate water residence time and downstream water resources in mountain watersheds, yet whether a single extreme rainfall event can reorganize near‐surface storage remains unclear. Here, we examine typhoon‐driven NSGD using ambient seismic noise from four stations, together with hydrological and ...

Using a thermal unoccupied aerial vahicle to detect submarine groundwater discharge in Escambia Bay, Florida

open access: yes
This project is intended to measure the spatial-temporal trends of submarine groundwater discharge in Escambia Bay using a thermal imaging drone. Submarine groundwater discharge (SGD) is groundwater that flows from the land into bays and seas.

Gas Measurements Reveal Fractional Degassing and Water Interaction During a Flank Eruption of Pacaya Volcano (Guatemala)

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 17, 16 September 2026.
Abstract SO2 flux and gas composition were measured during the 2021 flank eruption of Pacaya Volcano (Guatemala). The SO2 flux, measured with Tropomi, gradually rose from ∼2 to ∼30 kg/s over a 5 month period before the eruption. Field UV camera data showed that >95% of the SO2 was emitted from the summit crater.

Dynamic Responses of Groundwater Flow and Salt Transport to Storm Surge Inundation in Unconfined Coastal Aquifers

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 17, 16 September 2026.
Abstract Storm surges severely salinize coastal aquifers, yet post‐storm subsurface hydrodynamics remain poorly understood. We investigated surge inundation in unconfined tidal aquifers, revealing that subsurface flow recovers much faster than salinity distributions.

Permafrost Degradation Drives Shifts in Chemostasis and Stream Geochemistry in the McMurdo Dry Valleys, Antarctica

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 17, 16 September 2026.
Abstract In the McMurdo Dry Valleys, Antarctica's largest ice‐free area, the stream channels consist of rock and sediment that are underlain by permafrost. Substantial permafrost degradation and channel erosion occurred in January 2012 on the west branch of Crescent Stream, while the east branch remained unaffected.
