The submarine volcano of Capelinhos and the tectonics of the Azores

In another paper of the author, a picture of the tectonics of the Azores was presented. The morphological analysis showed evidence of a folded and faulted structure and led to the hypothesis of a crustal deforming agent related with forces from SE to NW on the crust.

Mineralized microbes form Giggenbach submarine volcano

2008
The Giggenbach submarine volcano, which forms part of the Kermadec active arc front, is located ∼780 km NNE of the North Island of New Zealand. Samples collected from chimneys associated with seafloor hydrothermal vents on this volcano, at a depth of 160–180 m, contain silicified microbes and microbes entombed in reticular Fe‐rich precipitates.

SummaryA submarine fissure eruption of Upper Miocene age produced a modest volume of alkaline basalt at Low Layton, on the north coast of Jamaica. The eruption occurred in no more than a few hundred metres of water and produced a series of hyaloclastites, pillow breccias and pillow lavas, massive lavas, and dikes with an ENE en échelon structure.
