Previous Investigations show that it is not easy for the freestream to enter a submerged inlet with flush-mounted planar side entrance. To improve the performance of this type of inlet, three important entrance parameters, side edge angle, ramp angle, and characteristic parameter of aft lip, are introduced in this paper, and their effects on the ...

Hydrotechnical Construction, 1974
1. In inlet transitions of submerged outlet conduits with nonseparating flow, local pressure reductions occur, and this can cause cavitation on and cavitational erosion of the transition surface. 2. There are countless numbers of nonseparating and noncavitating inlet transitions of elliptical profile.

Study of Total Pressure Losses at the Engine Face of a Submerged Inlet with an Ingested Vortex
2017An experimental study of the effect of vortex ingestion into an S-duct diffuser on flow conditions at the engine face is presented. A simultaneous ingestion of a boundary layer is also considered. In order to form a boundary layer of well-defined thickness ahead of the intake the diffuser is arranged on a flat plate.
