Construction methodology for lip surface of a submerged inlet
Aerospace Science and Technology, 2016Abstract The design of submerged inlet remains a challenge as the design involves both the fuselage and the inlet internal duct. The inlet lip surface blending needs to meet stringent conditions, which vary considerably from fore lip to aft lip. The need for high aerodynamics performance also adds to the difficulty of the design process.

Numerical Analysis and Experimental Validation of a Submerged Inlet on the Plane Surface
AbstractIn order to get a deep insight of a submerged inlet on the plane surface, the integrated flow-field of the inlet and fuselage has been numerically studied. The investigation is mainly focused on the formation of the total pressure distribution at the exit of the inlet, the structure of the inner flow and the effects of the boundary layer along ...

Aerodynamic efficiency analysis of the ridge integrated submerged inlet
Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part G: Journal of Aerospace EngineeringIn this study, a new ridge surface is proposed and its impact on the aerodynamic efficiency of a generic top-mounted submerged inlet is investigated at Mach 0.3 to 0.5. The concept is developed to investigate the possibility of vortex breakdown manipulation by the ridge surface to control the chaotic flow pattern after the breakdown, measuring the ...

Investigation of submerged inlets to deep rectangular sluices
Hydrotechnical Construction, 19671. The presented theoretical and experimental values of the coordinates of the surface of vacuum-free inlets (under actual conditions they can be with a weak vacuum) obtained from an examination of the discharge of water from under a gate under conditions of a plane problem can be used in appropriate cases when extreme vacuums or unfavorable ...

Integrated design of submerged inlet and fuselage
Abstract In response to the demand for unmanned aerial vehicles’ (UAVs) survivability in complex and dynamic battlefield environments, a submerged inlet with both stealth and aerodynamic features was designed. This inlet improves the total pressure recovery coefficient by adding a flow control slot in front of the inlet and using a ...

Variation of Flow Control Configurations to Improve Submerged Inlet Uniformity
47th AIAA Aerospace Sciences Meeting including The New Horizons Forum and Aerospace Exposition, 2009A ∞ow control study was initiated upon a generic submerged inlet to determine whether discrete blowing could be efiective in eliminating the boundary layer deflcit created in the throat and therefore the engine face. The throat was a rectangular area of 7.14 cm 2 , with the stream wise velocity of Mach 0.064, with a free stream velocity of Mach 0.039 ...

Multi-Objective Shape Optimization Study for a Subsonic Submerged Inlet
Journal of Propulsion and Power, 2004The findings of a multi-objective shape optimization study conducted for a subsonic submerged air vehicle inlet are summarized. The objective functions of the optimization problem are distortion and swirl indices defined by the distribution of flow parameters over the exit cross section of the inlet.
