Submillimeter Heterodyne Astronomy from Mauna Kea

This paper reports on the results of a collaboration between NASA Goddard Space Flight Center and MIT Lincoln Laboratory in which a laser heterodyne receiver was developed and used at the NASA infrared telescope on Mauna Kea. The NASA IRTF is located on the island of Hawaii at an elevation of 14000 ft (4200 m).

Cryogenic metal mesh bandpass filters for submillimeter astronomy

Submillimeter Wave Astronomy Satellite and Star Formation

As a successful NASA explorer mission, SWAS makes first detections of the H2O emission at a ground-state transition (110 → 101). The general range of the fractional water abundance ([H2O] /[H2] 6×10-10 3 × 10-8), established through SWAS observations, are lower than those predicted by pure gas-phase chemistry by two orders of magnitude.
