Topological order and the low-energy subspace

open access: yes, 2023
This thesis concerns itself with two fundamental tasks in the theory of quantum information: the preparation of ground and low-energy states of local Hamiltonians on a quantum computer and the secure transmission of classical information over a quantum channel.

Non‐Relativistic Limit of Dirac Hamiltonians With Aharonov–Bohm Fields

open access: yesStudies in Applied Mathematics, Volume 156, Issue 4, April 2026.
ABSTRACT We characterize the families of self‐adjoint Dirac and Schrödinger operators with Aharonov–Bohm magnetic field, and we exploit the non‐relativistic limit of infinite light speed to connect the former to the latter. The limit consists of the customary removal of the rest energy and of a suitable scaling, with the light speed, of the short‐scale

Non‐amenability of mapping class groups of infinite‐type surfaces and graphs

open access: yesBulletin of the London Mathematical Society, Volume 58, Issue 4, April 2026.
Abstract This paper completely determines the non‐amenability of the mapping class groups of infinite‐type surfaces, the mapping class groups of locally finite infinite graphs of higher ranks, gives an example of non‐amenable stabiliser of a point at infinity of a coarsely bounded generated hyperbolic Polish group, and exhibits a class of mapping class

Function spaces for decoupling

open access: yesJournal of the London Mathematical Society, Volume 113, Issue 4, April 2026.
Abstract We introduce new function spaces LW,sq,p(Rn)$\mathcal {L}_{W,s}^{q,p}(\mathbb {R}^{n})$ that yield a natural reformulation of the ℓqLp$\ell ^{q}L^{p}$ decoupling inequalities for the sphere and the light cone. These spaces are invariant under the Euclidean half‐wave propagators, but not under all Fourier integral operators unless p=q$p=q$, in ...

Noncommutative polygonal cluster algebras

open access: yesJournal of the London Mathematical Society, Volume 113, Issue 4, April 2026.
Abstract We define a new family of noncommutative generalizations of cluster algebras called polygonal cluster algebras. These algebras generalize the noncommutative surfaces of Berenstein–Retakh, and are inspired by the emerging theory of Θ$\Theta$‐positivity for the groups Spin(p,q)$\mathrm{Spin}(p,q)$.

Graphical small cancellation and hyperfiniteness of boundary actions

open access: yesJournal of the London Mathematical Society, Volume 113, Issue 4, April 2026.
Abstract We study actions of (infinitely presented) graphical small cancellation groups on the Gromov boundaries of their coned‐off Cayley graphs. We show that a class of graphical small cancellation groups, including (infinitely presented) classical small cancellation groups, admit hyperfinite boundary actions, more precisely, the orbit equivalence ...

A Miyaoka–Yau inequality for hyperplane arrangements in CPn$\mathbb {CP}^n$

open access: yesJournal of the London Mathematical Society, Volume 113, Issue 4, April 2026.
Abstract Let H$\mathcal {H}$ be a hyperplane arrangement in CPn$\mathbb {CP}^n$. We define a quadratic form Q$Q$ on RH$\mathbb {R}^{\mathcal {H}}$ that is entirely determined by the intersection poset of H$\mathcal {H}$. Using the Bogomolov–Gieseker inequality for parabolic bundles, we show that if a∈RH$\mathbf {a}\in \mathbb {R}^{\mathcal {H}}$ is ...

Multiple front and pulse solutions in spatially periodic systems

open access: yesJournal of the London Mathematical Society, Volume 113, Issue 4, April 2026.
Abstract In this paper, we develop a comprehensive mathematical toolbox for the construction and spectral stability analysis of stationary multiple front and pulse solutions to general semilinear evolution problems on the real line with spatially periodic coefficients.
