ABSTRACT The thermal state of underground power cables can be monitored based on the temperature dependency of the dielectric permittivity of the insulation material. The resulting temperature‐dependent wave velocity is used as a thermometric property. To this end, the signal propagation time along a cable of an injected signal is determined.

ABSTRACT Oil–pressboard system is the main insulation form of oil‐immersed transformers, which is prone to partial discharge (PD) and subsequent faults due to contamination or moisture ingress. To investigate the evolutionary characteristics of PD streamers under varying voltages and insulation dimensions, streamer images were captured using a high ...

ABSTRACT Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) inspection of overhead transmission line composite insulators allows for the rapid acquisition of large amounts of infrared images of insulators in service, which can be used to analyse their operational status. However, efficiently and accurately analysing these images remains a challenge.

Abstract Oregon's wave of data center and semiconductor projects shows how cloud capitalism reorganizes resource systems and territorial governance. Examining Amazon, Google, and Intel, the article traces how fiscal incentives, utility programs, and land‐use instruments are recalibrated to secure hyperscale loads.

Abstract Visualization is routinely used in control rooms to maintain situational awareness of complex sociotechnical systems. While control room design often incorporates human factors engineering to identify the information presented, it is not unusual for control room visual encodings to rely closely on operator experience and historical encodings ...

Risks of concealing environmental degradation
Abstract Current practice seeks to conceal the visual impact of land‐use change (i.e., development). Six percent of development impact assessments in Australia and 14% of the World Bank's assessments recommend visual impact mitigation. This mitigation results in, for example, vegetated buffer strips alongside cleared agricultural areas and earthen ...
