Reduction of RF Heating Near Bilateral Deep Brain Stimulation Leads Using Two‐Channel RF Shimming at 3T

open access: yesNMR in Biomedicine, Volume 38, Issue 10, October 2025.
This study addresses the RF heating risk of 3T MRI in patients with bilateral DBS leads. Using two‐channel RF shimming and low‐SAR calibration scans, we developed a method to minimize‐rather than eliminate—RF heating in both leads simultaneously. Optimized shim settings were shown to reduce RF heating and image artifacts in phantom experiments across ...

PRKN/PINK1 Mutations in a Chinese Patient With Early‐Onset Parkinson's Disease

open access: yesBrain and Behavior, Volume 15, Issue 9, September 2025.
A 51‐year‐old Chinese man with 27‐year early‐onset Parkinson's disease harbored rare PRKN/PINK1 mutations. PRKN deletion might abolish PINK1‐PRKN pathway activation, which is related to impaired mitophagy. Striatal dopaminergic dysfunction and levodopa‐responsive motor symptoms were reversed by subthalamic nucleus deep brain stimulation.

The Next Frontier in Parkinson's Disease Treatment: A Narrative Review of Innovative Neurosurgical and Gene Therapy Approaches

open access: yesHealth Science Reports, Volume 8, Issue 9, September 2025.
ABSTRACT Background and Aims Parkinson's disease (PD) is a progressive neurological condition that consists of both motor and non‐motor symptoms that considerably deteriorate the quality of life. Pharmacological treatments, primarily levodopa, have been used to manage PD. However, side effects such as dyskinesias and motor fluctuations frequently limit

Corticobasal degeneration preceded by cognitive impairment and apathy: An autopsy case report

open access: yesPsychiatry and Clinical Neurosciences Reports, Volume 4, Issue 3, September 2025.
Abstract Background Corticobasal degeneration (CBD) presents with a range of clinical phenotypes, making diagnosis challenging. We report the clinical course of a patient with autopsy‐confirmed CBD who initially presented with cognitive impairment and apathy, without motor symptoms.
