Subxiphoid Mediastinoscopic Autonomous Double Fenestration
The Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgeon, 2022AbstractThe coexistence of pleural and pericardial effusions in frail patients with or without confirmed neoplasia necessitates the use of a minimally invasive technique that has a minor impact on the patient's general status and allows for fast fluid evacuation and biopsy sampling if necessary.

Subxiphoid Anterior Mediastinal Exploration
The Annals of Thoracic Surgery, 1977A new surgical technique for anterior mediastinal exploration is described. The technique involves application of a Carlens mediastinoscope by means of a subxiphoid incision. The procedure provides complete exploration of the anterior mediastinal compartment and allows the surgeon to obtain a positive biopsy of the tumor or its lymph node metastases ...

Subxiphoid Endoscopic Epicardial Ventricular Tachycardia Ablation
The Annals of Thoracic Surgery, 2021Ventricular tachycardia refractory to traditional therapies such as medical management and endocardial catheter ablation poses a risk for sudden cardiac death and poor quality of life. We describe a patient who was successfully treated for refractory symptomatic ventricular tachycardia using hybrid endocardial and minimally invasive epicardial ablation

Subxiphoid approach to the pericardium
Scandinavian Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, 1988Pericardiotomy was performed via the subxiphoid route in 19 patients, 7 with benign and 12 with malignant disorders. Partial pericardial resection ('fenestration') was undertaken in nine of the patients with malignant disease, and pericardial tube drainage or insertion of pacemaker electrode in the other ten patients.

Subxiphoid Pericardiotomy-Reply
JAMA: The Journal of the American Medical Association, 1982In Reply.— The experience of Breyer and associates supports our impression that subxiphoid pericardiotomy is a procedure of choice for the treatment of acute cardiac tamponade. It is of particular note that these authors report one patient with a small right ventricular laceration from an attempted, but unsuccessful, pericardiocentesis.

Pericardial drainage: subxiphoid vs. transthoracic approach
European Journal of Cardio-Thoracic Surgery, 1991The optimal management of effusive pericardial disease remains controversial. Subxiphoid drainage has been criticized for a high recurrence rate while transthoracic procedures (window or pericardiectomy) are more invasive operations with greater potential for morbidity.
