Weed Suppression, Nitrogen Availability, and Cabbage Production Following Sunn Hemp or Sorghum-sudangrass

open access: yesHortTechnology, 2021
Cover crops included in a crop rotation can help increase nitrogen (N) availability to subsequent crops, raise soil organic matter, and suppress emergence and growth of various weed species.

Priming seeds of sorghum and sudangrass using water and aquatic extracts of willow and banana [PDF]

open access: yesActa Agriculturae Serbica, 2022
The aim of this study was to examine the impact of seed priming on seed quality parameters (germination energy, germination, seedling length and vigor index) of sorghum (Sorghum bicolor L. Moench) and sudangrass (Sorghum sudanense Pers.).

Height management strategies of sudangrass €˜BRS estribo€™

open access: yesBoletim de Indústria Animal, 2022
The productive, morphological and chemical composition of Sudangrass €˜BRS Estribo€™ submitted to different heights of management was evaluated. The design was in randomized blocks with four replicates in a 3x2 factorial scheme, with three pre-defoliation heights (40, 55 and 70 cm) and two post-defoliation heights (20 and 10 cm).

15N uptake fom manure and fertilizer sources by three consecutive crops under controlled conditions Absorção de N15 de fertilizantes e esterco por três cultivos sucessivos em condições controladas

open access: yesRevista Brasileira de Ciência do Solo, 2009
There are several regions of the world where soil N analysis and/or N budgets are not used to determine how much N to apply, resulting in higher than needed N inputs, especially when manure is used.

Sudangrass uses water at rates similar to alfalfa, depending on location

open access: yesCalifornia Agriculture, 2001
Although sudangrass hay is the second largest forage crop (next to alfalfa), grown south of Sacramento and its planted area has quadrupled in the past decade, little information is available about its water use or relative water value.

Response of nematode communities to sudangrass and sorghum-sudangrass hybrids grown as green manure crops.

open access: yesJournal of nematology, 2011
Two cultivars of sudangrass (Piper and Trudan 8) and three of sorghum-sudangrass (Sordan 79, P855F, and P877F) were grown as green manure crops in 1993 and 1994 and compared with sweet corn for their impact on nematode population dynamics. Nematodes were identified to trophic group, order, and to lower taxa when possible.

Effects of seeding rate and time of cut on the yield and quality of sudangrass (Sorghum sudanense (Piper) Stapf.)

open access: yesActa Agriculturae Slovenica, 1998
In the years 1996 and 1997 the effects of two seeding rates (25 and 55 kg ha-1) and stage of growth (harvest at stem elongation stage at the heights of 50 cm, 100 cm, 150 cm, and harvest at early heading) on the yield of sudangrass (Sorghum sudanense ...
