Extraction Process in the Ethanol Production from Sugarcane – A Comparison of Milling and Diffusion

open access: yesChemical Engineering Transactions, 2014
The objective of the extraction process in the ethanol production from sugarcane is to separate the sucrose-containing juice from the remainder of the cane, mainly fibre. The two currents, products of this process, are the juice and the bagasse.

Metagenome assembled genomes from hot sugarcane mill mud. [PDF]

open access: yesMicrobiol Resour Announc
ABSTRACT The genomes of six bacteria from the phylum Bacillota were assembled from metagenomic DNA extracted from sugarcane mill mud obtained immediately after heat treatment. These metagenome-assembled genomes were 94.5%–99.8% complete, with <2% contamination, and ranged from 2.6 Mb to 6.5 Mb, encoded 2573–5724 ...

Metagenome-assembled genomes from sugarcane mill mud

open access: yesMicrobiology Resource Announcements, 2023
ABSTRACT The genomes of 11 bacteria and 3 archaea were assembled from metagenomic DNA extracted from sugarcane mill mud. These metagenome-assembled genomes ranged from 1.79 to 6.45 Mb, with 2,263 to 5,551 predicted proteins, 80.65% to 100% genome completeness, and 43.19% to 68.02% G+C content.

Thermal decomposition kinetics of sugarcane mills wastes [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Thermal Analysis and Calorimetry, 2017
The aim of this work was to evaluate the kinetic parameters regarding the first thermal decomposition mass loss step of organic matter present in samples of bagasse, filter cake, and vinasse provided by two sugarcane mills by TG in pyrolysis and combustion conditions.

Chemical and microbial characterization of sugarcane mill mud for soil applications

open access: yesPLOS ONE, 2022
Sugarcane mill mud/filter cake is an activated sludge-like byproduct from the clarifier of a raw sugar production factory, where cane juice is heated to ≈90°C for 1–2 hr, after the removal of bagasse. Mill mud is enriched with organic carbon, nitrogen, and nutrient minerals; no prior report utilized 16S rRNA gene sequencing to characterize the ...

Management of Sugarcane Mill Wastewater in Hawaii

open access: yesWater Science and Technology, 1990
Current sugarcane mill wastewater management system in Hawaii was surveyed at Oahu Sugar Co. on the island of Oahu. Problems generated from the improper wastewater management such as odor nuisance, field silting, crop reduction and large land requirement, motivate a new management system for Hawaiian sugar industry.
