Herpesviral DNA-binding protein (DBP) is a unique protein involved in viral DNA replication and genomic recombination. It binds and stabilizes the single-stranded DNA. It also forms the D-loops and promotes the strand invasion. To identify the functional regions and amino acid residues required for DNA binding and D-loop formation, we characterized ...

The genomic diversity among isolates of suid herpesvirus 1 (SHV-1) collected in the same herd and among clones from the same isolate was studied by restriction fragment pattern (RFP) analysis using BamHI. Tentatively defining a field strain as a transmissible entity, it was concluded that strains of SHV-1 commonly comprise distinguishable genomic ...

Studies on the vertical transmission of suid herpesvirus-1 in pigs.
Vertical transmission of Aujeszky's Disease virus (ADV) was studied in pigs with two British strains. The strains used were both isolated from an outbreak of disease in Yorkshire. In vivo experiments involving intranasal infection of 10-week old pigs revealed that one strain was highly virulent (Leeds-1) while the other was of low virulence (Leeds-2 ...

The population biology of suid herpesvirus 1
Suid herpesvirus 1 (SHV-1) is the causative agent of Aujeszky's disease (AD, pseudorabies), known worldwide as a major economical threat to pig farming. Measures are taken in many countries to control or eradicate the disease and considerable effort therefore has been focused on the elucidation of the epizootiology of the infection.

Pigs (3 and 10 weeks old) were infected intranasally with Aujeszky's disease virus (ADV) mutants that functionally lacked one of the non-essential genes in the unique short region of the genome (except the gene encoding the 11K protein). Virus excretion in oropharyngeal fluid and disease symptoms were monitored.

The interaction of the glycoprotein gB of Aujesky's disease virus (ADV, Suid herpesvirus 1) with heparan sulfates of BHK-21 cells was studied. The study used the native glycoprotein gB purified from the virus envelope by affinity chromatography based on gB-specific monoclonal antibodies. The cellular binding of the glycoprotein gB was specific and dose-

The purpose of the case study was to investigate the interplay between liposomes, containing the in-built glycoproteins of the Aujeszky disease virus (ADV, Suid herpesvirus 1) with plasmatic membranes of sensitive cells. The conditions of reconstructing the ADV glycoproteins into artificial-liposome membranes were optimized.

The possible antiherpetic effect of three polyanions (heparin, chondroitin sulfate and dextran sulfate), as well as one polycation (protamine sulfate) was tested in vitro and in vivo against pseudorabies virus (Suid herpesvirus 1). The in vitro experiments revealed that heparin, dextran sulfate and protamine sulfate significantly reduced the number of ...

Study of immune function in inbred miniature pigs vaccinated and challenged with suid herpesvirus 1.
Canadian journal of veterinary research = Revue canadienne de recherche veterinaire, 1996Specific immune responses of inbred miniature pigs following vaccination and challenge with suid herpesvirus 1 (SHV-1) were determined. Vaccination of swine with SHV-1 elicited both specific neutralizing antibody and lymphoproliferative responses. Moreover, pigs vaccinated with SHV-1 were fully protected against a lethal virus challenge.
