Dermatan sulfate and chondroitin 6-sulfate conformations

Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 1973
Abstract X-ray diffraction patterns show that dermatan sulfate in oriented, crystalline films occurs as two or three or eight-fold helices. The two-fold helix has a greater axial rise per disaccharide residue [ h = 9.6 A ] than the corresponding chondroitin 6-sulfate helix [ h = 9.3 A ] .

Degradation of chlorotriazine pesticides by sulfate radicals and the influence of organic matter.

Environmental Science and Technology, 2015
Atrazine, propazine, and terbuthylazine are chlorotriazine herbicides that have been frequently used in agriculture and thus are potential drinking water contaminants.

Sulfation of Polysaccharides using Monomethyl Sulfate

Journal of Carbohydrate Chemistry, 2000
ABSTRACT The polysaccharides, curdlan, starch and dextran were sulfated when heated in DMSO with sodium methyl sulfate and a catalytic amount of H2SO4 or with pyridinium methyl sulfate. Use of diminished pressure and anhydrous CaSO4 as a desiccant improved the degree of sulfation and recovery.

Order out of chaos: assembly of ligand binding sites in heparan sulfate.

Annual Review of Biochemistry, 2002
Virtually every cell type in metazoan organisms produces heparan sulfate. These complex polysaccharides provide docking sites for numerous protein ligands and receptors involved in diverse biological processes, including growth control, signal ...

The anticoagulant effect of heparan sulfate and dermatan sulfate

Thrombosis Research, 1976
Abstract The potency of the various glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) as anticoagulants in the activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT) test system has been investigated. Heparin, heparan sulfate (HS) and dermatan sulfate (DS) exhibit anticoagulant effect.

Chondroitin 4-sulfate: The structure of a sulfated glycosaminoglycan

Journal of Molecular Biology, 1978
Abstract The molecular conformation and crystal structure of a regular 3-fold helical form of chondroitin 4-sulfate have been refined by a process in which agreement between observed and calculated intensities is optimized, while non-bonded interactions are restrained simultaneously to reasonable values.

Degradation of organic contaminants in water with sulfate radicals generated by the conjunction of peroxymonosulfate with cobalt.

Environmental Science and Technology, 2003
A highly efficient advanced oxidation process for the destruction of organic contaminants in water is reported. The technology is based on the cobalt-mediated decomposition of peroxymonosulfate that leads to the formation of very strong oxidizing species

Relative Effectiveness of Ferroglycine Sulfate and Ferrous Sulfate

New England Journal of Medicine, 1962
IN recent years the drug industry has presented the practicing physician with an ever increasing array of iron preparations. Medical representatives, armed with excerpts from the medical literature, urge him that each new iron preparation is better tolerated and more efficacious than any of the others.

Urinary Chondroitin Sulfates, Heparan Sulfate and Total Sulfated Glycosaminoglycans in Interstitial Cystitis

Journal of Urology, 1997
We compared urinary glycosaminoglycan levels in patients with interstitial cystitis and healthy controls.Total sulfated glycosaminoglycans assayed by dimethylmethylene blue binding and individual glycosaminoglycans analyzed by cellulose acetate electrophoresis were compared in patients with interstitial cystitis and healthy controls.

Removal of Persistent Organic Contaminants by Electrochemically Activated Sulfate.

Environmental Science and Technology, 2015
Solutions of sulfate have often been used as background electrolytes in the electrochemical degradation of contaminants and have been generally considered inert even when high-oxidation-power anodes such as boron-doped diamond (BDD) were employed.
