Synthesis and characterization of poly(ether sulfone) and poly(ether sulfone ketone) copolymers
Journal of Applied Polymer Science, 1999Poly(ether sulfone) and poly(ether sulfone ketone) copolymers (I-V) were synthesized by the nucleophilic substitution reaction of 4,4'-dihydroxy diphenyl sulfone (DHDPS, A) with various mole proportions 4,4'-difluoro benzophenone (DFBP, B) and 4,4'-difluoro diphenyl sulfone (DFDPS, C) using sulfolane as solvent in the presence of anhydrous K 2 CO 3 ...

Nafion is a currently used as a proton exchange membrane in vanadium redox flow batteries (VRBs). It is an excellent proton-conducting and fully hydrated membrane, but it is costly. In order to reduce the cost of the membrane used in VRBs and to reduce vanadium permeability across the membrane, sulfonated poly(ether ether ketone) (S-PEEK) and ...

Crystallization behaviour of poly(ether ether ketone)/poly(ether sulfone) block copolymer
Polymer, 1996The crystallization and melting behaviours of a multiblock copolymer comprising poly(ether ether ketone) (PEEK) and poly(ether sulfone) (PES) blocks whose number average molecular weights were 10 000 and 2900, respectively, were studied. The effect of thermal history on crystallization was investigated by wide-angle X-ray diffraction measurement.

Synthesis and properties of poly(ether ether ketone)-poly(ether sulfone) block copolymers
Polymer, 1994Two series of block copolymers composed of poly(ether ether ketone) (PEEK) and poly(ether sulfone) (PES) components were prepared from the corresponding oligomers via a nucleophilic aromatic substitution reaction. In the first series of block copolymers, the Mn of the PEEK segment was fixed at 10 000, while the Mns of the PES segments ranged from 250 ...

Abstract A sulfonated poly(ether ether ketone) (SPEEK) membrane with fairly high degree of sulfonation (DS) swells excessively and even dissolves at high temperature. To solve these problems, sulfonated phenolphthalein poly(ether sulfone) (SPES-C, DS53.7%) is blended with the SPEEK matrix (DS55.1%, 61.7%) to prepare SPEEK/SPES-C blend membrane.

The monomer containing sulfone and amide linkages, namely N,N'-bis(4-phenoxybenzoyl)-4,4'-diaminodiphenyl sulfone (BPBDAS), was conveniently prepared by the condensation of 4,4′-diaminodiphenyl sulfone with 4-phenoxybenzoyl chloride in N,N-dimethylacetamide (DMAc).

Development of Sulfonated Poly(ether-ether ketone)s for PEMFC and DMFC
2008During the last two decades, extensive efforts have been made to develop alternative hydrocarbon-based polymer electrolyte membranes to overcome the drawbacks of the current widely used perfluorosulfonic acid Nafion. This chapter presents an overview of the synthesis, chemical properties, and polymer electrolyte fuel cell applications of new proton ...

State of the water in crosslinked sulfonated poly(ether ether ketone)
Journal of Applied Polymer Science, 2012AbstractWe investigated the material properties of different crosslinked sulfonated poly(aryl ether ketone) membranes, focusing on the effect of the degree of sulfonation and crosslinking density on the water uptake, the physical state of the water, and the pore size distribution within the membranes.

Modification of sulfonated poly(ether ether ketone) with phenolic resin
Polymers for Advanced Technologies, 2007AbstractSoluble phenol formaldehyde resin containing hydroxymethyl groups has been used to modify sulfonated poly(ether ether ketone) (SPEEK). Modification has been carried out with films containing both the polymers and using dimethyl formamide (DMF) as casting solvent at various temperatures under reduced pressure. Associated solvent and the hydrogen‐
