Stable High-Capacity Elemental Sulfur Cathodes with Simple Process for Lithium Sulfur Batteries

open access: yesMolecules, 2023
Lithium sulfur batteries are suitable for drones due to their high gravimetric energy density (2600 Wh/kg of sulfur). However, on the cathode side, high specific capacity with high sulfur loading (high areal capacity) is challenging due to the poor ...

Organic sulfur was integral to the Archean sulfur cycle [PDF]

open access: yesNature Communications, 2019
AbstractThe chemistry of the Early Earth is widely inferred from the elemental and isotopic compositions of sulfidic sedimentary rocks, which are presumed to have formed globally through the reduction of seawater sulfate or locally from hydrothermally supplied sulfide.

Sulfur biogeochemical dynamics of grassland soils in northern China transect along an aridity gradient

open access: yesGeoderma
As an essential nutrient element for biological growth and metabolism, sulfur is closely interlinked with the carbon and nitrogen cycles, and it is one of the limiting elements for grassland productivity.

The Biogeochemical Sulfur Cycle of Marine Sediments [PDF]

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2019
Microbial dissimilatory sulfate reduction to sulfide is a predominant terminal pathway of organic matter mineralization in the anoxic seabed. Chemical or microbial oxidation of the produced sulfide establishes a complex network of pathways in the sulfur cycle, leading to intermediate sulfur species and partly back to sulfate.

Modeling the signature of sulfur mass-independent fractionation produced in the Archean atmosphere

open access: yes, 2014
Minor sulfur isotope anomalies indicate the absence of O2 from the Archean atmosphere. A rich dataset showing large variations in magnitude and sign of Δ33S and Δ36S, preserved in both sulfates and sulfides, suggests that further constraints on Archean ...

Microbiological analysis of the population of extremely haloalkaliphilic sulfur-oxidizing bacteria dominating in lab-scale sulfide-removing bioreactors

open access: yes, 2008
Thiopaq biotechnology for partial sulfide oxidation to elemental sulfur is an efficient way to remove H2S from biogases. However, its application for high-pressure natural gas desulfurization needs upgrading.

Network divergence analysis identifies adaptive gene modules and two orthogonal vulnerability axes in pancreatic cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumors contain diverse cellular states whose behavior is shaped by context‐dependent gene coordination. By comparing gene–gene relationships across biological contexts, we identify adaptive transcriptional modules that reorganize into distinct vulnerability axes.

The pyrite multiple sulfur isotope record of the 1.98 Ga Zaonega Formation: Evidence for biogeochemical sulfur cycling in a semi-restricted basin

open access: yesEarth and Planetary Science Letters, 2020
The pyrite sulfur isotope record of the 1.98 Ga Zaonega Formation in the Onega Basin, NW Russia, has played a central role in understanding ocean-atmosphere composition and inferring worldwide fluctuations of the seawater sulfate reservoir during the ...

Iron homeostasis disruption and lipid peroxidation in skeletal muscle during short‐term immobilization

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
14‐day casting‐induced immobilization reduced gastrocnemius muscle mass and increased non‐heme iron and ferritin heavy chain levels. Despite iron accumulation, transferrin receptor 1 and iron regulatory protein 2 were paradoxically upregulated. Lipid peroxidation was elevated without compensatory antioxidant responses.

Stress-tolerant sulfur cathode with a super-stretchable polymer coating via initiated chemical vapor deposition

open access: yesCommunications Materials
The mechanical deterioration of the sulfur cathode during cycling from repeated voltage changes is a limiting factor of the cycling stability of lithium-sulfur batteries.
