Nano‐Architected Metallic Metamaterial With Enhanced Fatigue Resistance via Dislocation Starvation

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Nanoscale Ni single crystals exhibit remarkable fatigue resistance over an order of magnitude higher than that of bulk single crystals through dislocation starvation. By translating this mechanism into geometric nano‐architecture, nano‐architected Ni single‐crystal metamaterials achieve about twice the fatigue resistance of the bulk, despite their ...

Decoding microbial diversity, biogeochemical functions, and interaction potentials in red sea hydrothermal vents

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiome
Background Hydrothermal vents along mid-ocean ridges host diverse microbial communities and are crucial to global elemental cycling. The Red Sea, known for its unique environmental conditions—including low nutrient levels, high year-round temperatures ...

The Marine Organic Sulfur Cycle

open access: yesAnnual Review of Marine Science
Organic sulfur (OS) in the ocean is produced in vast quantities by primary producers that fix inorganic sulfate into proteins, metabolites, and other ubiquitous biomolecules. As biogenic OS is transported and transformed through the marine environment, it is joined by OS from two additional sources: abiogenic OS from sulfurization under anoxic ...

Hydrophobic MFI‐Type Zeolites via Alkali‐Cation‐Induced Defect Healing: Implications for Adsorbent and Catalyst Design

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Sub‐stoichiometric amounts of Na+ or K+ enhance defect healing during Silicalite‐1 (MFI) and TS‐1 calcination by promoting Si–O–Si annealing and healing framework vacancies. The resulting defect‐free zeolites are more hydrophobic and show improved butanol/water separation and improved activity and selectivity in the epoxidation of 1‐hexene, offering a ...

Joint Partial Least Squares Modeling of Experimental and Computational Data for Electrolyte Prescreening in Lithium–Sulfur Batteries

open access: yesChemElectroChem
Lithium–sulfur batteries have attracted great research interest due to the high theoretical capacity of sulfur of 1672 mAh g−1. However, they have various problems due to the shuttle current caused by molecular sulfur dissolving in the electrolyte. Hence,

Gold‐Stabilized Copper Enables Anodic Hydrogen Evolution for Ultralow‐Voltage CO‐to‐Ethylene Electrolysis

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Gold‐stabilized copper suppresses hydroxide‐driven deactivation during anodic hydrogen evolution from furfural. Pairing this low‐potential anode with CO‐to‐ethylene electroreduction enables sub‐1 V operation at 400 mA cm−2, high single‐pass CO conversion, and co‐production of ethylene, furoic acid, and a separate hydrogen stream.

Electrolyte Design for Fast‐Charging Lithium‐Based Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A decade of progress in fast‐charging electrolytes for lithium batteries is reviewed. Electrolyte design strategies spanning solvents, salts, additives, and advanced systems, such as localized high‐concentration electrolytes (LHCEs), are summarized. Advanced diagnostic tools for lithium plating and interphase chemistry are discussed, with perspectives ...
