Thermo-kinetic modeling and optimization of the sulfur recovery unit thermal stage
Applied Thermal Engineering, 2016Abstract In this study, the reaction furnace of Claus process was modeled using the Gibbs free energy minimization method, which involved new parameters in correlations of thermodynamic properties. Using the new parameters, a significant error reduction from 33.50% to 7.86% occurred in the prediction of molar flow rate of components.

Comparing regressors selection methods for the Soft Sensor design of a Sulfur Recovery Unit
2006 14th Mediterranean Conference on Control and Automation, 2006The paper proposes a comparison of different strategies of regressors selection for the design of a Soft Sensor for a Sulfur Recovery Unit of a refinery. The Soft Sensor is designed to replace the on line analyzer during maintenance and it is designed by using nonlinear MA models implemented by a MLP neural network.

Stacking approaches for the design of a soft sensor for a Sulfur Recovery Unit
IECON 2006 - 32nd Annual Conference on IEEE Industrial Electronics, 2006In the paper a soft sensor designed to estimate the acid gases hydrogen sulfide (H2S) in the tail stream of a Sulphur Recovery Unit (SRU) in a refinery located in Sicily, Italy, is described. In particular a model stacking approach is proposed to improve the estimation performance of the Soft Sensor.

Leaking Carbon Steel Weldments in a Sulfur Recovery Unit
2019Abstract Two leaks were discovered at a sulfur recovery unit in a refinery. The leaks were at pipe-to-elbow welds in a 152 mm (6 in.) (NPS 6) diam line, operating in lean amine service at 50 deg C (120 deg F) and 2.9 MPa (425 psig). Thickness measurements indicated negligible loss of metal, and the leaks were clamped.

Chemical Product and Process Modeling, 2018
Abstract Due to environmental limitations and issues, the main goal of this research is modification of conventional Claus sulfur recovery process to decreases sulfur contaminant emission. In this regard, two environmentally friendly alternatives are proposed based on the isothermal concept in reactors. Since Claus reaction is exothermic and reversible,

Corrosion Control Strategies for Sulfur Recovery Units: Insight from Case Studies
CONFERENCE 2025Sulfur Recovery Units (SRU) are critical components in gas plants and refineries, responsible for converting hydrogen sulfide (H2S) to elemental sulfur. This process is crucial from an environmental perspective as it prevents the release of toxic gases into the atmosphere.

Corrosion Fatigue and Chloride-Induced Stress Corrosion Cracking in Sulfur Recovery Units
CONFERENCE 2024Abstract Sulfur Recovery units (SRUs) are widely used in the oil and gas industry to recover sulfur from refined products and acid gas waste from the natural gas process. This involves routing acid gas rich in hydrogen sulfide through a reaction furnace to produce molten sulfur in a thermal Claus reaction. Central to the operation of the
