The determination of sulphur and sulphur-35 in milk
The Analyst, 1970Sulphur compounds in milk are oxidised quantitatively to sulphate with Benedict's reagent. The sulphate is determined gravimetrically as barium sulphate, and the sulphur-35 content determined by radioassay of an aliquot of the barium sulphate as a gel in a scintillation medium. The presence of sodium hydroxide during the oxidation is essential for good

Orthorhombic Sulphur formed by Photosynthetic Sulphur Bacteria
Nature, 1967THE formation of large mineral deposits of elementary sulphur, for example in Sicily, France, Texas and Louisiana, has often been attributed to microbial processes1–3. The similarity of stable sulphur isotope ratios in various sulphur bearing minerals4–8 to fractionation rates obtained in laboratory bacterial cultures9–12 gives strong support to the ...

Reactions of organic sulphur-sulphur bonds
1971Rates of cleavage reactions of substituted diaryl disulphides have been measured in 60% aqueous t-butanol at 30.0°C using cyanide ion, sulphite ion and hydroxide ion as nucleophiles. Variations of substituents on the leaving group (thiophenoxide) gives results which correlate well with pK’s of the appropriate thiophenoxides.
